A/N: In this story Steven and Connie have known each other since they were five, and at the beginning of this story both of them are seventeen. None of the events of the Steven Universe series have taken place yet, but Steven does have his healing spit and superhuman strength, and Connie is a master sword-fighter. In this story the events of Alone Together happen before the rest of the story. Eventual Stevonnie/Edward Cullen. Thank you very much for reading my story, and PLEASE LEAVE A REVIEW!
In a small state called Delmarva there existed a small town named Beach City. In that city there were many people, each with their own exciting stories to share. But this story isn't about them, it's about two very special teenagers named Steven Universe and Connie Maheswaran. Currently, they were sitting on the secluded beach right outside of Steven's loft home which existed under a gigantic temple, having a picnic.
Steven was a tall man with a height of six-feet and four-inches with a head of curly Ink Black hair, and he had deep kind eyes the color of black licorice. He had a sturdy and very muscular build with an eight-pack under his shirt and large pecs. He currently wore his usual outfit of a pinkish-red short-sleeved T-shirt with a large golden star on the front and blue denim jeans with reddish-pink flip-flops.
Connie was a woman that had a height of five-feet and eight-inches with a head of slightly wavy Raven Black hair and bright Cinnamon Brown eyes. She had a lithe yet muscular build with a six-pack, and she possessed a decent sized bosom of C-Cup Breasts. She currently wore a cyan blue dress kept in place with a pink ribbon tied around her waist, and she wore cyan blue flats.
Steven was sitting on a picnic blanket with Connie on his left, his arm wrapped around her, both of them staring out at the sea as the sun set. The food had already been eaten, and all they felt like doing after such a large meal was spend time together.
"Steven," Connie began, hesitantly. "There's something I've been meaning to ask you."
"What's that Connie," Steven asked, "And why do you sound so nervous?"
"Oh, it's nothing!" She said hurriedly, "I'm just a little worried is all. There's this stupid dance coming up at school, and I was just wondering if you wanted to go with me?"
"I'd love to! There's just one problem." Steven said the last part very seriously.
"What?" Connie asked, sounding confused.
"I have no idea how to dance!" Steven burst-out, completely freaked out. "I mean, I know I dance all the time, but that's just silly dancing! I have no idea how to dance seriously for something as important as a, well, school dance! What are we going to do-"
"Steven!" Connie cut in, and Steven stopped and looked at her. "It's okay, I can teach you to dance."
"Really?" he asked, sounding slightly nervous.
"Of course," she said sincerely and gently, before saying goofily "That's what girlfriends are for."
"Okay," Steven said sounding relieved, "So, when are we going to start?"
"Why not right now?" Connie said standing up and grabbing her cellphone. She quickly put on some music and set her phone down before turning to Steven and putting her hand out towards him. "Shall we?"
Steven stared at her hand for a second with stars in his eyes before taking it and saying "We shall!"
Steven quickly stood up and grabbed her other hand with his own and they then began dancing. They started off slow with them just moving their feet back and forth, before they decided to take it up a notch. They continued on a for a few moments before Steven turned to suddenly and tripped, but just as he was about to fall he was caught by Connie.
The two of them stood frozen, just staring into each others eyes as Connie held Steven in her grasp. Suddenly, they both began to laugh and they both also closed their eyes. Unbeknownst to them, while they were laughing Steven's gem began to glow, the glow surrounding both of them until suddenly there was nothing but darkness.

Awareness came to them slowly, but as it did they began to open their eyes. What they saw when they opened their eyes was the beautiful night sky covered in stars. They began to wonder what they were doing sleeping outside before what happened came back to them.
"Whoa," They said as they looked down and saw their legs, which were now a bronzish color. "Why am I… Why is your sandal to small for my-your feet?" They quickly began to take stock of their new body, and they then began to freak out.
"Steven, Connie!" They said, sounding slightly panicked but also extremely excited. "What's going on? I don't know." She asked and then answered herself. "What should we do? I don't know-Wait we should go find the gems! Great idea!" And with that they began trying to stand up, with some difficulty, but they quickly got the hang of it and started walking towards the temple.
"Guys, guys, guys!" They yelled as they ran into the loft.
"Steven, what have I said about yelling in the house…" Pearl trailed off after seeing them before she gave a start and yelled, "Oh my stars!"
"I know," They said as they stopped in front of all three of the gems, "Pretty weird right."
"He fused," Pearl began, beginning to look them over, "With his girlfriend Connie? I didn't even think Steven could use fusion! This is impossible, its unprecedented," She stopped for a moment before saying, somewhat awkwardly, "Or at the very least inappropriate. How did this even hap-" Pearl was suddenly cut off by Amethyst's laughter.
"Hehehe, Pearl," Amethyst began, "Look at Garnet!" And she was right to laugh because on Garnet's usually stoic and expressionless face was the biggest smile any of them had ever seen.
Pearl just stared blankly at Amethyst for a moment before saying to the now known fusion, "You two should unfuse immediately."
"I don't know how this happened! We were just dancing together when all of a sudden, poof! We're like this! What do you even mean by unfuse?" The new fusion began, "And what's fusion?"
"Oh, how do I put this?" Pearl began to fret nervously. "Fusion is usually when two gems combine together to form a bigger and more powerful gem needed for some purpose, but to fuse with a human? It's never been done before."
"Wooow!" Amethyst said coming up to the new fusion, "You two look great together? How does it feel Steven-Connie, Stevonnie?!"
"It feels amazing!" The newly named Stevonnie said, sounding extremely happy yet slightly shocked at themselves at the same time.
"Yes, well," Pearl started, somewhat nervously, "I'm glad your enjoying yourselves, but you two should unfuse this instant."
Stevonnie stood their for a second, looking like she was thinking it over before saying, "No."
"Whaaaaaaat?!" Pearl and Amethyst both said sounding shocked.
"I said 'No'," Stevonnie said, "All our lives we've felt like something was missing inside of us, and when Steven and Connie met it got better. I mean, the missing feeling was still there but it was better! And now that we're fused the feeling is gone altogether, it's like it was never there in the first place! It's like we're whole for the first time in our lives! Do you really want to take that away from us?"
"Well of course not-But you see-" Pearl said, as she kept cutting herself off mid-sentence before turning to Garnet, who was smiling even wider than before, and saying nervously. "Garnet, help me out here."
This seemed to knock Garnet out of her stupor because she schooled her features, walked up to Stevonnie, and said, "Stevonnie, listen to me. You are not two people, and you are not one person. You are an experience! Make sure your a good experience. And if you feel like staying fused is what's best for you, then so be it." At the end of Garnet's little speech Stevonnie had stars in her eyes, and she nodded her understanding to Garnet.
"Steve-Stevonnie," Pearl began, and Stevonnie looked over at her with slight fear and worry, "If staying fused is what you really want I'm okay with that. As long as it is what makes you, both of you, happy."
"Stevonnie Forever!" Amethyst yelled her acceptance.
"Now there's just one problem," Pearl said, and after she had everyone's slightly confused attention, she said, "How are we gonna tell your parents?"

As Stevonnie sat on Steven's bed in the loft, crying her eyes out, it was needless to say that the conversation with their parents had went poorly. Steven's Dad, Greg Universe, had taken the news well altogether, with the only thing worth noting was his obvious shock that Steven and Connie could even fuse in the first place. The Maheswaran's took it less than well.
Suffice it to say, there was a lot of yelling and crying on both the parents and Stevonnie's part, but in the end the Maheswaran's couldn't accept it and disowned Connie/Stevonnie as their daughter.
It had been a little over a week since the exchange occurred and as of that day Connie was officially no longer a Maheswaran. Needless to say Stevonnie was taking it pretty hard. As they sat and cried Stevonnie realised something. They needed to get away.
Not forever, but for at least a few months they needed to be somewhere where nobody knew them, somewhere where no one would bring up what they were, somewhere they could just be themselves. They decided to talk to their Dad about it first thing in the morning.
