Crumbling, breaking, deteriorating. All lost in time and space far too early. It was something he should have prevented. Something he could have. He'd had the power, the trust and faith of every human on Earth. But that little knot in his stomach….
He'd seen it, knew what would happen if he undid the paradox. He'd followed the lines of time, seen them twist and curve and reach their inevitable end. The complex interweave of cause and effect. All the world would be safe and happy, the universe unaware of the terror that would have eaten it alive. He'd be the hero again.
And the Master would be dead.
And that was what it came down to, wasn't it? He'd give anything, ANYTHING to be with the Master just a moment longer.
So here he was, pulsating with energy still, and Jack and Martha were watching him, horrified. It was all crumbling in on itself, the Earth was dying, and he only clung tighter to this Master who had refused to be touched the whole year. Who kept him locked in a cage and did his best to break his hearts. And he cried and cried and told the Master over and over again that he forgave him, and begged him never to leave again, while the Master sent wild eyes across the room and tried to escape him, clawing at his hair and arms and screaming in agony.
Personally, I find the Master's reaction to being forgiven somewhat disturbing. I mean, he had a freaking panic attack and threatened to DESTROY THE EARTH. But, you know, I also tend to find disturbing things in entertainment wonderful, so I'm not complaining. I'm just thinking, you know, maybe was being a bit of a drama queen?
Anyways, it's the forgiveness and clingy doctor that's freaking him out at the end of this.
