What went through Sameen's mind in those few seconds she stared at John after Fusco's phone call. Rest in peace, Root.
She looked in John's eyes and knew. She was gone. She was really gone. The woman she had finally let herself love, was dead. She willed this to be a simulation. 'Just another simulation' she told herself. But she knew it wasn't. For the first time since her escape she was certain this was real. But the hardest thing of all? She didn't feel a thing. She always knew Root might die, and she always thought that when and if she did, she would feel something. Root was the person that taught her to feel. But not anymore. She was numb. And she knew, that with Root, died everything she ever wanted. Their 'maybe someday' was cut too short. And she couldn't feel any pain. And for the first time in her life, she wanted the pain. She wanted to be reminded that she was still human. But Root was the only person that could do that for her, and now that she was gone, so was Shaw.
