The Search for the Forgotten

A/N- This is a really short story, just saying.

Ronan's POV

Ronan swam towards his mother's cave to sneak up to his father's old loft. He wanted to complete his painting. He was accompanied by his seapets, Melody and Miranda. The merman didn't bother putting on his fake fin. No one would see him in the dead of night. No one would know that he had human legs. His secret was safe with the dark waters of the Pacific Ocean.

Ronan stopped short, seeing a rotund silhouette enter his mother's cave. After the figure had passed through the mouth of the cave, he hid in the shadows, listening attentively.

"Hello, Mariella," he heard her mother say in her sticky sweet voice, the voice of a true siren.

"No need to be formal, Noelle. What did you call me here for?" It was Mariella Swanson, the village physician.

"Well. . . .I've been searching for my husband's will. I can't-" his mother began, cut off.

"A will? He's not dead. You and I both know that," Mariella interrupted. Ronan was confused. His father...alive?

"You know what the consequences would be if they find out we faked his death. Besides, he has money. You can receive a portion of it if you help me," his mother bargained, using her poisoned, soft voice, knowing the poor woman couldn't refuse.

"You know, I have to agree. You leave me no choice, siren. I am forced to help you," the nurse answered, an icy edge to her voice. Ronan was about to leave to ponder on the nurse's statement when he heard his mother's next words.

"I faked his death so he wouldn't come back. I couldn't stand him being here. It was a good plan," his mother defended herself. Ronan froze, suddenly deciding to stay and listen.

". . .A plan that could still get us killed. . .All because you wanted him gone so you could marry Ross Shells and take his money!" Mariella snorted.

"I did. Resources are running low. We need the money," she admitted. Mariella started walking away, muttering.

"Tomorrow night. The forbidden ship," his mother called out to Mariella. Ronan returned to his cave with Maia and Brooke. He didn't want to finish his painting anymore.
