He bought me a sea salt ice cream bar. I'm so not kidding. He was like, "Here you go," and put it in my hand.
And I didn't know what to say. It was either, "I don't like sea salt ice cream you idiot!" Or "Umm… thanks."
I settled for the first one.
What? I don't think about these things.
"I don't like sea salt ice cream you idiot!"
"Oh."
Then SHE gave me that look. As if she has any right to act like my mother. I'm 18. Geez.
"Excuse me, Sora, but I need to talk to Yuffie for a second."
Aerith grabbed me by the wrist, and dragged me to the next room. It was my bedroom, which I'd cleaned so little baby Sora could sleep in it. I was not pleased, because now I had to sleep on the couch.
Leon passed us in the hall and took the sea salt ice cream right out of my hand saying, "Thanks." I shrugged. Aerith did not look pleased with either of us.
"Yuffie, Sora was trying to be nice." she said. Leon realized he wanted out, so he left the room. I wanted to follow.
"Well, he might want to try a bit harder." I said. She rolled her eyes.
She gave me that look again and then put a hand to her forehead."Yuffie…"
I smiled. "Yes?"
She seemed to get more frustrated as I smiled. I was half surprised, I mean, it's difficult to frustrate the ever-calm Aerith.
"Yuffie. Am I really gonna have to tell you?" she asked.
I smiled bigger. "Tell me what?"
Now, here's what you have to know. I totally knew what she was talking about the entire time. But, being me, I really didn't care. I was hungry. Like, really hungry. I could go for some pie right about now.
Aerith put both hands on my shoulders and moved me to a nearby bed.
"Oh great," I said, "that bad?"
I attempted to look serious, but I ended up looking mock serious. Aerith looked like she might slap me. But then she calmed herself.
She nodded." You see Yuffie, Sora likes you."
I thought about it for a second. "That's cool. But you say it as if he's caught the measles or something."
She slapped her forehead.
"Well, now there's finally someone who appreciates me as much as I do!" I said.
"…Yuffie, Have I ever told you how oblivious you are?"
"What does oblivious mean?"
"Never mind… just go over there, and don't hurt Sora's feelings, O.K?"
"Whatever. I want soda."
I walked back down the hallway, continuing until I saw the boy sitting on the couch. He looked kinda miserable, sitting there, liking his ice cream. I couldn't help feeling slightly bad, but I didn't want to show it, that's for sure. He was probably faking sadness, anyways.
I went to the kitchen, got myself a soda, and then joined him on the couch. As I sat down, he looked up at me. He actually had a genuine sad look in his eyes. I giggled. Putting my soda on the coffee table, I leaned over and grabbed his cheek. No, I didn't lean in to kiss him, god, I'm not that romantic!
I actually grabbed both his cheeks and pulled on them. You know, like grandmothers do to their grandkids.
"You're such a cute little baby!"
And THEN I kissed him.
I un-locked our lips and reached over to get a sip of my soda. He looked at me strangely.
I turned on the TV. "Don't be such a sourpuss, Sora."
Um… not my best…
