A/n: When I was writing this I had no idea how much fireflies meant in Japanese culture, paticuraly mythology, I learned that fire flies represent longing, spiritual illumination, and souls of children.

Disclaimer- Seriously do I look like I own Inuyasha?

Hotaru no Hikari

She fluttered across the ground, her skin illuminated in the moonlight. She was like a firefly in the night sky. She fit right into her surroundings, standing among the fireflies. 'Is she real?' Inuyasha asked himself, her ghost-like appearance was lovely and frightening all at the same time. Kikyo was not aware of Inuyasha's gazing eyes upon her frame. Kikyo hummed a soft song to herself, one that her mother sang to her as a child. Hotaru no Hikari, the light of a firefly. It was a sad song one made for the departure to the afterlife, but Kikyo never understood why her mother would sing her such a song. Until Kikyo became a miko.

She thought about it no more and continued to pay homage to the spirits. Inuyasha quietly as he could, watched nearby on the bank of a river, a captured firefly in his hand. He was enticed by her, he never wanted to leave her from his sight. The moment was bitter sweet; sweet-that he had the chance soak in her presence, bitter-knowing deep inside he'd never have her. Realizing this he freed the firefly that was once imprisoned in his hand. He watched it flutter across the ground the upwards to the moon.

A/n: What do you think? It's my first Inuyasha fic.I love the Kikyo and Inuyasha pairing,so this is a fic I've been wanting to write for the longest time. P.s.- Hotaru no Hikari is a song meant for farewell.
