The room was silent as the Doctor and River laid in bed, entangled in one another' arms. River's head rested on the his chest and their bodies fit perfectly, like two pieces of the same puzzle.
The Doctor couldn't help but smile as he familiarized himself with River's soft skin, by caressing her sides, and the smell of her wild, beautiful curls.
He loved her curls. And her skin. And her eyes, her smile, her voice, and he even loved how she just knew how to get on his nerves.
"Doctor," she suddenly broke the silence.
"Hmm?" he mumbled, still thinking about her hair.
"How would you feel about an addition to our little TARDIS family?"
His attention suddenly came back into focus and his hands froze in their positions.
"Uh," he was speechless.
"It doesn't have to be immediately," she told him as she grabs one of his hands and holds it between two of hers. "It'll take a few months of course, getting everything taken care of and the shopping, the supplies, the bed..."
She went on and on, the Doctor only caught a few stray words here and there. Was she really serious about this? How long has this been on her mind? Could it already be coming? Oh dear lord, he couldn't handle domestic. It just wasn't his scene.
"Enough," the Doctor suddenly said, making River stop mid-sentence. "River, dear, I think this is a bit too fast. I mean, I haven't even established what our relationship is, let alone thought of this." He sighed and swallowed fearfully. "I'm just not ready to have a child." he whispered.
There was a moment of silence, and for a moment he thought he heard River load her gun.
"That's all grand dear," she said unexpectedly, "but just because we get a dog doesn't mean we have to have a child. I mean, you just sounded happier when you talked about K-9 and I thought, maybe it was time you got a real dog."
The Doctor let out a breath he didn't know he was holding and smiled. One hand was still in her hand and the other began to caress her again as she continued to speak.
Oh how he loved how she got on his nerves.
