Author's Notes: This is a series of 100-word drabbles on the last words spoken by the companions of the Tenth Doctor. The inspiration for this fic came from "Last Words" by lumelle (who goes by Hopeakaarme on this site), who did the same thing for various Prince of Tennis characters. If anyone wants me to write more for characters from the classic series, please let me know.

This contains character death and spoilers for the episode "Journey's End."

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night

Donna Noble

Now in her sixties, Donna Noble was no less spirited than she'd been as a young woman.

Sometimes she did feel the years creeping up on her. She tired so easily these days. Just before her eyes closed, she could have sworn she saw them all: Mum, Dad, Gramps, and a familiar face she no longer recognised.

"It's you!"

So many memories flooded back to her that she felt as if her mind were on fire. And then she saw that she really was on fire.

The police put it down to faulty wiring and filed her death as an accident.

Jack Harkness

When the universe came to a standstill, Jack discovered that TS Eliot had been right. It was all going to end with a whimper rather than a bang.

He decided it was about time. He'd lived longer than any other creature in existence, from the beginning of eternity to the end. If the planets and stars had no more reason to carry on, he couldn't see why he should.

After all, no one knew better than he did that eternal life wasn't all it was cracked up to be.

"At last," he said, and went out to embrace the darkness.

Martha Jones

No one to date has survived working at both Torchwood and UNIT. Martha Jones was no exception. The doctors said her illness could only have been caused by prolonged exposure to radiation, and she knew it was job-related.

Every day was unspeakable agony for her. Her hair and teeth fell out and her skin peeled away. Towards the end she wished she really had died at the hands of the Sontarans.

Still, she decided, it could have been worse.

"At least it wasn't the Osterhagen Key," Martha gasped - the last sounds she made before her internal organs gave out as well.

Mickey Smith

If Mickey Smith could have known beforehand how he would die, he would have laughed. He'd survived Autons, Daleks, Cybermen and a parallel universe, but it was a small piece of metal that finally ended his life.

Dying didn't seem so bad to Mickey. It didn't feel like the "senseless murder" tomorrow's newspapers would describe. He felt as if he'd been punched, not stabbed, although the blood proved otherwise.

The paramedics told him he would be fine. As the light faded from his eyes, he knew they were wrong.

"Bollocks," he said resignedly, and was dead before he reached the hospital.

Rose Tyler

Rose Tyler died before she was thirty. It took another thirty years for her to stop breathing. The new Doctor, her Doctor, was still centuries older than he looked. In a near-human body, it wasn't long before time caught up with him.

She gave up on any pretence at living on the day her son moved out. John Smith junior came home every weekend to look after her.

When he found her lifeless body on the sofa, he had one regret: she'd have wanted her last words to be for his father, not a request for a cup of tea.

Sarah Jane Smith

Sarah Jane Smith's greatest fear as a child was of dying alone.

When it came true, she wasn't afraid. She was just glad Luke hadn't been in the car with her, and that he didn't have to see her lying in the hospital.

The nurse attending to her heard her mutter something. "What's that, Miss Smith?" This time there was no mistaking the one word. "You want a doctor? I'll just get one for you," said the nurse, and left the room.

By the time they returned, Sarah Jane was gone. The Doctor had already come for her.
