Painful Truth
Bolin slept soundly in his bed on his side. Moonlight shined through the window that illuminated the boy's back. Korra stood in front of him in the darkness redressed after Bolin had fallen asleep. She leaned down and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
"Good night," the Avatar whispered. She placed her hand gently on his forearm for a moment. She then turned around and slid her hand off of him as she headed for the door. She left as quietly as she could, closing the door.
Korra rested her back on the wall and shut her eyes while she took a breath. She wrapped her arms around herself. She opened her eyes partially that revealed her beautiful blue eyes. "Why can't I love him like he does me?"
Korra had been going out with Bolin for the past year and only recently did they start having sex. Still despite all the fun they had and how easy it was being with the earthbender she never felt that loving spark between her and him.
She saw how Bolin was on the other hand. He was completely devoted to her. She could see it in his eyes, actions, the way he talked and the way he kissed her with such passion. He was so sweet he didn't even blow up at her when she was 'rarely' wrong.
A tear ran down her face when she thought about how Bolin hoped they have a family together. She imaged the faces of the young earthbenders and waterbenders they would bring into the word and it broke her heart.
Why couldn't she feel the same way about him that he did about her? There would be times when they kissed that she pulled away or refuse to talk about things because she knew it would lead to questions about the future.
It wasn't like her and Bolin didn't have anything in common they had plenty that's why they got along so well. Bolin listened to her problems and could be a rock she could rely on. And now that they were having a sexual relationship he was far from a bad lover, especially with his big…
She hated the whole thing, but she hated herself more for not being able to do something about her feelings. She was the Avatar for crying out loud. She placed her hand over her forehead. This was just too painful.
She knew what she would have to do. She needed to break it off with the earthbender. As much as she knew it would hurt both of them it was for the best. Bolin needed someone who could truly love him and not half-heartedly.
Korra brought her arm back down around her body. "I'm sorry, Bolin. But I don't love you."
