Happily swinging her feet under the kitchen table, Grace shoveled a spoonful of Cheerios into her mouth and then offered her imaginary friend some of her cereal. Beside Grace, her sister Isabella pulled the spoon from her father's hand.
"I do it!" she exclaimed, sticking the plastic spoon into her breakfast.
Bobby laughed. "Okay, you do it, then."
She tried to pull the loaded spoon out of the bowl, but over estimated and ended up flipping the oatmeal towards her sister.
Grace watched as it landed with a splat on the table in front of her and erupted into a fit of giggles with Izzi joining in the laughter shortly after.
"She missed," Grace stated.
"Can you do better?" Bobby asked as he took the spoon back from the younger girl, only to have her reach for it again.
Grace nodded eagerly and stuck her spoon into her Cheerios again. She shoveled the cereal into her mouth, smiling proudly.
"See!"
"I see, Gracie. Very good," he said, smiling.
"Penny can do it, too," she added, sliding her bowl over to her imaginary friend. "She's afraid of you, Daddy. Close your eyes!" she added, grinning. He did as he was told, covering his eyes with both hands. Grace giggled and climbed down from her seat. She walked around the back of Izzi's highchair and climbed into her father's lap. She turned to Izzi, putting a finger to her lips.
"Shh, Izzi."
Her sister responded by tilting her head, watching curiously.
Grace took Izzi's spoon and scooped out a glob of oatmeal. Standing in Bobby's lap, she reached up, holding the spoon over his head and poured the oatmeal on his head. She giggled, pulling his hands from his eyes. He looked up, then at Grace as she giggled madly, her sister joining in too.
"Serves me right," he said with a laugh. Her pulled Grace to him, blowing a raspberry into her shoulder, eliciting more giggles from both girls.
"What's all the giggling out here?" Andy asked, coming into the kitchen. Grace climbed down and scampered over to her mother, wrapping her arms around Andy's leg. "Hi, bambina," she added, smiling. The little girl smiled back and then went back over to her chair, climbing up into her seat. Smiling innocently, she went back to her cereal.
"She just conned me," Bobby said, smirking.
"You're an easy mark." Andy came over and stood behind him, her hands on his shoulders. Her eyes flicked from one girl to the other as she leaned down to whisper in his ear. "I'm pregnant."
"Oh, shit." His jaw dropped which earned more giggles from the two girls, Grace clamping her hands over her mouth, eyes wide. Letting her hands linger on his shoulders, Andy sauntered away.
"You have oatmeal in your hair, handsome," she said, grinning over her shoulder.
