Retribution
'Why is a raven like a writing desk?' A question that torments him and haunts him, causing his already around-the-bend mind to deform even further. But there were other questions, other things that bothered him.
Like, for example, the Bloody Big Head. The Red Queen. Iracebeth of Crimms.
He knows of how he acted towards her. He knows he's the key factor that triggered her downfall. Her mutiny. It's all because of him. And he knows why.
It wasn't for Alice, the lovely lad. It was for retribution. Revenge, if you will, for his stolen life.
He had wanted her to suffer. To see her life, her world shatter around her.
By the look on her face, when he exposed her court, it had worked.
He grinned maniacally at her as justice was served. She only looked at him with hurt, and devastation.
He knew he could be charming, when he wasn't babbling about his trade. He knew that she had begun to trust him, because he'd complimented her over-sized head, accepted it, when all others looked away, or tried ignoring it. He knew she felt betrayal. He had unveiled the lie around her, and it was destroying her.
Maybe it was because of her expression, the forlorn look of the lost, or his kind heart. Or maybe it was because he still wanted her to suffer, to be banished with the man she loved who hated her as well. But whatever it was, it had made him move, move for his needle, and save her from blissful darkness.
Because maybe that was too good for her. More than she deserved.
He pushed her to the back of his mind, his deliriously warped mind, and concentrated on the future.
Retribution had been served. But he didn't feel like his life was restored. He felt worse, hollower, emptier. His humanity nowhere to be seen.
But…
why is a raven like a writing desk?
Yea, I dunno, I was re-watching the execution scene, and this just popped into my head. I'm more of a Johnny/Helena couples fan, so it's only natural that I'd ship Mad Hatter/Red Queen. The only time I've ever shipped Hatter/Alice is in the SyFy ALICE movie, because, let's face it, they are adorable :) The Alice in Tim's version was too annoying/unemotional/lame for me to like. Actually every Alice but the one in ALICE I don't like, I dunno why, but I do…^^;
Hope you enjoyed this fic, I always felt that Red Queen was just misunderstood, hopefully that's come across in the fic. R&R! xD
