I know there are a lot of baby!Delena fics out there but I wanted to add my own twist to it. Human Delena angst because I love to torture myself. Series of one shots.
She knew she miscarried the minute she started bleeding. It started like the two others, a light trail of blood. But everytime, without fail, by the time she reached the bathroom blood was gushing out of her.
This time she didn't cry.
Elena couldn't do it anymore. She was 20 weeks. 20 weeks. Everyone told her the third time was the charm. She was even starting to show, her little tummy poking out a little bit. They were going to go into the doctor's in two weeks to find out the gender. She guessed she'll never knew.
The minute she saw the blood something inside her clicked. She slipped on the toilet, and kneeled on the ground. Her eyes threatened to overflow with tears, but she held them back. She slowly sank to the ground, not caring about the amount of blood coming out of her, now seeping through her underwear.
She closed her eyes, not being able to keep them open any longer. She couldn't do it.
Damon found her like that an hour later. He got home from work early.
He had been worried about his wife lately. Elena worried, yes, but not like this.
Normally she'd call or text to check up on him before he came home, to ask what he wanted for dinner or anything like that. In the pit of his stomach, when he didn't get that text, he knew something was wrong. He took off his shoes at the door, Elena didn't want him to track in the germs from the streets of New York in case it'd hurt the baby.
"Elena?" he called. He glanced in the kitchen, then the living room. His feet padded the stairs as he gained speed.
"Elena?" he called, again. He saw the light seeping under the cracked open door in the bathroom.
"Baby?" he asked, reaching to open the door. The minute he saw the blood his heart dropped.
"Elena! Elena? What happened?" he asked frantically, as he ran over to her. He knelt down next to her, and brushed her hair from her hidden face.
Her face was completely blank. Her eyes stared at nothing as Damon accessed where the bleeding was from. He finally noticed that source, and his heart squeezed. Their baby.
"Oh, god. Elena. We have to get you to the hospital. Oh, god." he said, his eyes glistening with tears. He had kissed her baby bump just this morning. They were already arguing about baby names. They thought they were in the clear.
Elena finally seemed to notice Damon was there. Her brown eyes swept up to his.
"Damon… I'm sorry," her face scrunched up as she finally started to cry. Every emotion was in full swing. Everything hurt. Another miscarriage? She didn't know how she'd survive.
They stayed on the floor, clutching each other, mourning another baby they'd lost.
