Before the Ball
Venus-
She walked onto the balcony to watch the sun set. The wind was blowing strong enough
to wave her orange dress around her and lift her yellow hair away from her neck and
back. She faced the sun as it set, turning the sky yellow and pink, it was truly the only
time of day she was calm. She didn't have much joy in her life, her parents were always
on the moon for business. She knew it was important that they be there, for the alliance
between their kingdoms was being sealed, but she did miss them. Her brother was
always with her parents, learning the rules for his rein as King, except for now. He had
been sent back to bring her for the ball that night. She knew that it was important that
the alliance be completely sealed today, 'Infact it might already be' she hoped. The ball
tonight was the first for any of the princesses in the alliance and she was going to be there
to meet them all.
The sun was now almost gone over the horizon and the wind was picking up. The
clouds, all the colors of the rainbow, were now moving by very fast. She turned to go
inside when something caught her eye. She backed up to the edge of the balcony facing
the door and looked up, remembering her moon, the moon of Venus. She used to play
there with the princess of Mercury, Ami, until they joined the alliance. Then the
Mercians were afraid to involve themselves with anybody not in the alliance. The
Venusians didn't know what to think of it and they urged the King and Queen to join the
Moon Kingdom, and that's where they've been for three years. Minako missed Ami and
she was happy that they would be friends again along with the other planets. Her eyes
began to water the longer she stared at her moon, she hadn't journeyed there in three
years. She knew that this was an important thing but she was worried that she would
abandon her planet all together, the way she abandoned her moon. Now she would join
another moon, the moon of a planet that didn't even know that people were out beyond
their own planet.
As tears ran down her face she looked inside, it was the library, the only room that she
could go to besides her own. She began to walk inside when her brother came through
the door.
"So this in where you've been hiding!" He said without seeing her tears.
"I'm sorry you couldn't find me." She managed to sniffle out. As he realized what he
had just said he saw the tears running down her face.
"I'm sorry Minako" He said as he knelt down to her level. He picked her chin up so he
could see into her eyes. As she began to look into his pale blue eyes she knew he was
sorry. She put her arms around his neck and he picked her up and began to carry her to
her room.
"How about wearing your fancy orange dress tonight?" He said looking at her waiting
for a response. She pulled back to look at him.
"I like the yellow one better." She said with a smile as he looked at her sparkling eyes.
"What ever makes you happy."
