Aftermath

Disclaimer: I do not own Advance Wars.

a/n: Just a tiny little fic. I have a hard time writing these two, but I like them. I think I should probably do an AU one of these days…

'So it seems that Omega Land is returning to its previous state.'

She starts. Eagle is smiling down at her, offering a hand.

'The meeting's over, Sami.'

She blinks a couple of times and looks around. He's right; everyone's left or is in the process of slowly doing so. Jake seems to be trying to talk to Sasha, who has her full attention focused on Colin, but everyone else apart from Nell and Grit have left already.

'Oh,' she says, realising she's been caught. She can already feel the blush creeping up her face.

He laughs and takes her hand – she's been too slow, apparently – and asks, 'Did you have to do anything?'

'Don't think so. 'Part from maybe keeping Max in line.' She can't help the yawn that escapes. 'Didn't get enough sleep in there?' Eagle asks, the smirk back in place.

'You're a jerk,' she says, bumping his shoulder playfully.

He smiles. They stare at each other for a few seconds.

'Sami, you rollin' back to HQ?' Jake calls out from somewhere behind them.

Eagle drops her hand hurriedly, and Sami shouts back a little too quickly, 'Yeah, give me a sec!'

'So,' he says, giving her a half smile.

'So,' she replies, giving him her own variation.

'Remember I asked you to promise me something?'

She feels the smile start to slip, and swallows, suddenly nervous.

'Err… yeah?'

'When you cut me off and said I'd jinx you?'

She cringes internally.

'Um…'

'You want to come to Green Earth with me?'

She blinks.

'…That was not what I was expecting,' she says, almost choking on the relief. She was sure he'd force her to buy a couple of rounds, or at least take over his Colin-training duties for a week.

And then she realises what he actually did say, and the relief dries up instantly.

'You… what?'

Eagle is fixedly looking at anything but her, she realises, and one of his hands is continually skimming through his hair. He keeps blinking. He licks his lips. 'You're going to make yourself bald if you keep doing that,' she can't help jabbing.

He glares at her. 'Do not say that.'

She can't help it. She laughs.

'I'll go with you when your hairline's receded by a centimetre.'
