Stay By You.

I saw you with her,

The one you really love.

I may have been too blind to hope,

You'd consider loving me.

Before you, I was average.

After you, I had purpose.

I know that you loved each other.

I had hoped one day we'd be together,

But seeing her and seeing you

Unable too, to be as one,

I don't want to intrude.

I know you do care for me, maybe platonically,

But you care for her deeper still.

And to this busy heart of yours

I ask you now,

May I stay by you?

I'm not asking for you to love me,

But without you, I lose myself.

I might like to think you need me too,

As you do sometimes do, to fix your haughty ways,

So for me and perhaps for you,

May I stay with you?

When I know you'll be all right,

And you'll have your love to be your light,

That's when I'll know to leave.

But for now, this very moment now,

May I stay by you?
