A teenage boy with long, cerulean hair was leaning back against a wall, cluthing one arm against his side and not even once looking up from the ground no matter what happened around him. Xemnas wasn't quite sure what it was that made him notice the boy, maybe the unique color of his hair, or the way he was dressed in all black, or how he was wearing a sweater even though it was ridiculously hot outside. Maybe it was all three.
Now Xemnas wasn't exactly the curious type, but he had to admit the bluehaired boy had him wondering. More than wondering, he was practically haunted by the fact that he didn't even know his name. So since it was bothering him that much he should just go up and ask him, right? Right. That's what he should do, ask him. Now, quick, before he changes his mind. Now! The silverette almost ran across the street and stopped a bit away from the other boy. He took a deep breath and cleared his throat before stuttering out a "H-hi". The reaction was almost shocking.
The bluenette's head snapped up and he quickly backed away while lifting his arms as if to protect himself, seemingly on pure instinct, while looking up at Xemnas with emotionless, yellow eyes. He just looked so... broken. As if he had long since given up on even trying to look happy or sad, and all that was left was a single expression, indifference.
"Umm..." Xemnas swallowed. "...Hi. I'm Xemnas, I live nextdoor. What's your name?" At first he thought the bluenette wouldn't answer, but then he spoke, in a voice almost as deep as Xemnas' own.
"Saix. I just moved here."
Xemnas waited in case the boy, Saix, felt like telling him anything more about himself, but was met with silence. Not really the talkative person, eh? Well, then Xemnas would just have to ask something instead. "So, when'd you move in?"
"Two days ago."
"Where'd you move from?"
"Radiant Garden."
"Why'd you move to Dark City?"
"Dunno."
"What do you mean?"
"Just what it sounds like, I have no fucking idea of why we moved here."
Xemnas didn't really know what to say about that, so he paused for a moment before breaking the silence once again. "Then... do you... like ice cream?"
A while thereafter they were sitting on the top of Memory's Skyscraper, both eating a sea salt ice cream. Behind them the different sized screens were flashing different advertisements; Sale at Coded Clothes, buy three for the price of two!; Chain of Memories Jewelery, jewelery for every occasion!; Kingsized Hamburgermeals at Kingdom Burgers! Nobody can resist!
Xemnas watched Saix out of the corner of his eye while slowly eating on his popsicle. The bluehaired boy hadn't touched his ice cream, and made no attempt to either. As the screens changed to another advertisement (Birth by Sleep, beds for everyone!) Xemnas noticed something he hadn't quite seen before, thanks to the dark evenings here in Dark City; an X-shaped scar in between Saix' eyes. "Umm, the... that scar..."
Saix turned his head and looked at Xemnas with his expressionless face. "My parents." he said simply and turned his gaze forward again.
"Oh..." was all Xemnas could say. What else was he supposed to say? They sat in silence for a while after that, until Xemnas cleared his throat again. "If you wanna... y'know... talk about it... I'll listen."
A corner of Saix' mouth moved a little at that, a sorry excuse of a smile from one whose happiness has been forever broken. "Maybe."
