Stare straight into the night.
Look into the stars.
The way they burn.
So cold, yet we know,
So alive.
I hear your footsteps.
Turn to see you.
The haunting in my dreams.
You acknowledge my presence,
Then walk past.
Staring down,
I feel my heart flutter and stir.
I sigh,
Although a part of me wants to scream in frustration.
If only I knew why.
Then I could remove the reason.
The reason that every time you walk by,
I forget to breathe.
The reason that every time you smile,
I have to will my heart to keep normal pace.
Why does the heart
choose?
Why can't the head?
No one is meant to know.
So, sighing, I look up to the stars,
And return to my vigil.
