Lani: And so wrapped up in the Election was I that I completely forgot to post November 4th's piece for my countdown to, well, today; November 5th. But oh well! Now you all just get a two-for-one. Anyway, this is little Near's POV, and it's the only actual honest-to-gravy poem in this countdown (the others are song lyrics). Near addresses different people in each stanza. See if you can guess who! (If you can't, well, I'll tell you at the end. ;)) And as always, there are spoilers to the series, and the obscure lone periods serve as stanza-separators.

Disclaimer: Death Note, Near, etc. are not mine, but my poems and such are mine, please and thank you.

My Justice

. . .

Won't you wake, my valiant martyrs?

You told me you'd kill this disaster.

You flaunted the promise of victory.

You swore you would go down in history.

Wake up and prove to me I am wrong;

Show me that you were right all along.

You and he, unknown but lit with glory,

Will forever be in my memory.

.

This world won't know you, but who are they?

They will pass you by as your words fade.

But vigilant I will always remain;

Keeping you warm, at your side, through the rain.

And who are they? They mean not a thing.

Not a tear was shed as their bells rang.

Still, I believe you saw my lowered eyes

As I wept for my hero who died.

.

And this dear justice, given to me

By my pure saints who went before me,

Shall be my true gavel as I declare

That surely death can only come from there:

The red devil's precious black judgment.

The fallen blood is my testament;

Tighten my grip on the handle. The end

Of you, murderer, this axe portends.

Lani: 'Kay, we've reached the end now. Thank you for reading! And the ones Near is speaking to are, by stanza respectively: Mello and Matt, L, and finally Light.
