Here is a story for someone special. Someone wonderful. Who I loved and lost. Who I never stopped loving, never stopped thinking about after all these years. Now after 6 years, I finally feel right again. I love you. One day, we will be L and BB together again. Just you wait.
I don't own L or BB, or Death Note.
If I
Could be with you tonight
I would sing you to sleep
Never let them take the light behind your eyes
I'll fail and lose this fight
Never fade in the dark
Just remember you will always burn as bright.
~The light behind your eyes, My Chemical Romance
L sat with his feet pulled up underneath him. It was over. Light was defeated, the world was saved, his time was up. He fiddled with the chess pieces in front of him. He knew Watari wasn't there, but he could see him. His lips curled into a small smile as he kept up his game, ignoring everyone else around him.
Soon, he felt it. The sudden need to sleep, the slight twinge in his chest, beckoning him to close his eyes. His mind calmed for the first time in years. He was ready to rest.
Finally. He thought as he let his head loll forward, His eyes focusing on one object as he fell asleep. It was small, something no one but he could have noticed hidden in the room and no one would know what it meant to him upon studying it. But he knew what it meant.
The small jar of strawberry jam that he kept hidden in plain sight. It had never been opened, as he was saving it for someone and it never would be opened as that person had already passed. He thought about it for a moment, chastising himself for that. It wasn't logical to keep such a thing lying around for a dead man, but still he couldn't bring himself to use it or throw it out.
His head rested on his knees and he fell asleep.
"Hey, L." He lifted his head and BB was crouched in front of him, looking him straight in the eyes. "Wake up. You're dead."
L blinked for a second, quickly assessing his surroundings before focusing on the boy in front of him. BB looked healthy, the rings round his eyes gone. They still shone a bright red, but it was almost different than the last time. They seemed calm, no longer crazed and angry.
"B- You are-" For the first time in a long time L was lost. He didn't know where to start. "I'm sorry, I was-"
"You were an asshole. An indifferent asshole that ruined my life and drove me to insanity." BB wasn't ever one to mince words. "You hurt me."
L nodded. He was fighting back tears as he tried a million different ways to apologise in his head and none of them seemed to work. He had so much to say and didn't know how. So he was silent. BB still stared, hunched over the same way as L, tilting his head slightly reminding L of a kitten trying to read an emotion. Then he straightened his head with some sort of revelation and stepped a little closer to L.
"Did you win? Did you win the fight down there?" He asked. L again nodded. BB bobbed his head, he seemed satisfied with the other's answer. "Then I'm proud of you." He leaned forward and kissed L on the forehead, tilting his head down to lean forehead to forehead with him. "I'm not angry anymore, you don't have to be like this." They were so close their knees were touching, then BB took L's hands in his, looked into his eyes and smiled.
"Welcome home, Lawliet. I've been waiting for you."
