Photographic Memories

Faded photos scattered her messy bed. A blanket clutched in her right hand was held carefully on her cold body. Her usually straight hair was a mess, stray strands falling into her bloodshot eyes.

Scattered memories came with each photo. A photo fell from her hand as she tried not to smile. A good memory among the bad.

This picture featured a grinning Sora, age 11, his arm around Kairi's shoulder. Her eyes were filled with laughter as his gentle touch patted her shoulder.

They were at the beach. Sora, Kairi, Riku, Selphie, Tidus, and Wakka. Riku and Tidus had dumped sand all over Wakka's head. Sora, Selphie, and Kairi had laughed at the moment of hilarity.

Maybe they were destined to be. They had grown up on Destiny Island together. They were best friends for so long. It hurt now, to know this bond was long gone. And she was the cause.

Another photo escaped her grasp. This one was a bit less light-hearted than the last. Sora sat alone on the pier, thinking. Kairi's auburn head peaked out from nearby, concern in her eyes.

He wondered why. Why they would leave this island, to search for another. Such a wonderful place as this. She was there to comfort him, to help him understand. To just be there.

That was what it always was for them. One was always there to comfort the other. Just to be there was all the two needed. These two were always there for each other anyway. Simply there, and all was better.

She knew a bond like theirs was not easily broken. Why? Why had she been the one to break this bond? She couldn't take the pain of it all. She couldn't. And why couldn't she? Because she loved him.

A third photograph floated away. Kairi was the only one featured in this one. Her eyes brimmed with tears as she realized that she was alone. This was the moment that hurt the most. When Sora let go.

After that, everything changed. Kairi was back in Destiny Island. Sora was gone to who knows where. Nothing was how it chould be. He should have been the one back in Destiny Island after it was all over. Not Kairi.

She blamed herself. She blamed herself for their hands unable to keep a hold. She blamed herself for Sora not jumping over. She blamed herself for it all.

That bond was gone. And now, here, in Castle Oblivion, it all would go to waste. All that was in store for them. Kairi and Sora would never reunite. Unless . .

Unless she used her power for good. Not evil. Maybe she could make things right. She could fix things for them. They would reunite. All would go great. For them.

If she fixed this, she would lose. She would lose his heart. But maybe that wasn't such a great loss at all. She loved him, but she would have to let him go. Sora would no longer be hers.

She couldn't hesitate any longer. She had to fix this, and fix it now. It was what was right. It was what she should do.

Little did she know what woud be in store for her. How she would make up for what she had done. And they would meet again. But this time.. Sora wouldn't be hers. Sora would never be Naminè's.
