Another drabble, written again for the Checkmated Drabbles challenges. The prompt was "Leaves".
Hermione lay down on the ground. The trees were burning with oranges, deep reds and yellows. She stared up into the leaves and sighed. One leaf broke free of its branch and slowly drifted on the breeze towards Hermione, landing just next to her right hand on the grass.
She picked the leaf up and held it in front of her face, examining the burning orange hue of it. Hermione slowly turned it over in her hands before bringing it to her lips and stroking it across her face. It reminded Hermione of Ron's hair, which was longer now and slightly messy. He looked much older now and Hermione went weak at the knees every time she thought of running her hands through his soft hair and kissing it gently.
Hermione stood up and began to walk around the lake smiling at the thought of Ron. He meant so much to her. Her heart beat faster at the thought of him walking next to her through the orange, deep red and yellow leaves that were carpeting the floor. She grinned to herself at the thought of kissing him deeply whilst leaves slowly drifted through the sky around them.
She felt someone watching her and instinctively looked up. Ron was walking towards her, a determined look on his face. Hermione stopped and stood still, waiting for Ron to reach her and preparing to engage him in conversation. When he reached her, however, Hermione didn't have a chance to speak. Ron put his arms around her waist and pushed his lips hard against hers.
Slowly the orange leaf gently floated towards the ground, completely forgotten.
