In this fic Kuvira is about 13 or 14. Suvira isn't established, but it would come about later when Kuvira was older and in Su's guard.

Early Bird Sees the Dance

Kuvira came early to dance rehearsal, she always had. Every day at 7 am she was walking through the doors and to the locker room to wrap her arms and ankles. Today though, she came in at 6:30 to practice some of her forms and, heard the faint sound of music swirling around the hall quietly. I wonder what that is? Kuvira thought, silently walking towards the sound.

As she approached the last door in that hallway, Kuvira saw that the door was slightly ajar. Tiptoeing, as to not disturb the occupant of the room, she inched closer to the door and peeked through the crack.

Instantly, Kuvira's breath was stolen. Suyin was inside and to describe what she was doing was dancing, but the word seemed passionless compared to what Su was doing. Metal swirled and floated around the matriarch as she twisted and moved with the grace of liquid metal. Kuvira had seen Su dance, she was the troupe's instructor after all, but never had she seen such beauty and grace in her entire life.

With every second, Kuvira felt something in her chest tighten in the most wonderful way. She saw Suyin in a whole new light. Everyone admired Su, but Kuvira had the feeling that not everyone got to see her like this; so uncontrolled and open with her emotions.

With a start, Kuvira realized that the music had stopped. Trying to quickly get away from the door, Kuvira fell back just as the door opened.

"Well hi!" Su said, leaning down to help Kuvira to her feet.

"Good morning Ms. Beifong," Kuvira murmured shyly, internally cursing herself for making a fool of herself in front of her idol.

"Kuvira, I told you that you can just call me Su. There's no need for formalities. Now then, what are you doing here so early?"

"I came to practice my forms… You danced so beautifully!" Kuvira blurted out, unable to filter like she normally did.

Ugh, why am I always a mess when it comes to Suyin Beifong? Kuvira self chastised. Unaware of Kuvira's internal struggle, Su simply chucked and tilted her head, "So you liked that?"

"Yeah! I mean yes- you were- it was… incredible. I've never seen anyone move like that before."

Suyin smiled, replied with a softly whispered, "thank you," and began to walk towards her office. Kuvira couldn't help but watch her go. Something about Su had always fascinated her, and Kuvira didn't know why. Kuvira was pulled from her musings as Su called down the hall to her, "If you keep coming so early I'd be happy to give you some private lessons," before slipping into her office.

Kuvira stood stunned for the second time that morning, and because of the same woman too. The thought of seeing Suyin more, and getting private lessons, made her stomach flutter. She had had to start coming early to practice more often.
