Tears

Ginny Weasley sat on her bed, gazing out her window at the orchid. She could hear her mother calling her from downstairs but she ignored her.

Ginny was depressed. She wasn't in the mood to face other people. She was overcome with worry and felt a constriction in her chest that never eased. Harry, Ron and Hermione were gone. They were on some important and probably dangerous mission from Dumbledore. And they'd just left her here alone to worry. They had suddenly disappeared on the night of Bill and Fleur's wedding and Ginny hadn't heard from them since. Were they safe? Were they – Ginny's stomach clenched at the thought – Dead? No, they couldn't be. She'd have heard. Ginny forced the thought out of her mind. Her thoughts wandered. She stared at the orchid. How long it had been since they'd played two aside Quiddich there. Hermione and Ron against her and Harry.

Harry.

Suddenly his image swam into Ginny's mind. Poor Harry. All he wanted was a normal life, and yet he seemed to be the only one who could end this stupid war. And now he was off on some noble mission. Ginny hadn't even been able to say goodbye. She regretted it now. Would she ever see him again? Would she ever see him alive again? Harry; the boy she had loved for years. Ginny wished they had had more time as a couple. She wished the stupid git would've acted on his feelings earlier.

She felt a bubble of anger rise in her throat.

Harry had ended their relationship for her "safety". Ginny scoffed at the idea. She could take care of herself. But at the same time she knew he was right. Voldemort had used her once before and she had no happy memories of that experience. She didn't want to be targeted again. Still, Ginny mourned for her brief relationship with Harry. She supposed her goodbye was their sweet kiss here in her bedroom on his birthday. And stupid, meddling Ron had to come and interrupt it.

Ginny couldn't stay mad at Ron for long though. Not when he was in almost as much danger as Harry. Even though his meddling ways were annoying, she wouldn't have it any other way. He may be ignorant and oblivious but she knew Ron cared about her. He was one of the most loyal people Ginny knew. He and Hermione had stuck with Harry since their 1st year.

Hermione.

She was Ginny's best friend, they were closer than sisters. Ginny couldn't bear the thought of life without her. She only hoped that Hermione and Ron would come to their senses before it was too late.

Too late. Too late. Those two words echoed in Ginny's head. Before long it could be too late for many things. At any point in time it could be too late to someone dear to her, to tell them she loved them.

A lone tear slid down Ginny's face.

Too late to tell someone she loved them. Too late to tell Harry...

More tears were coming now, falling thick and fast.

They were tears of worry, tears of fear. Tears for Harry, who was involuntary stuck in the middle of this war. Tears for Ron and Hermione, who were putting their lives on the line to help him. Tears for George, who didn't deserve to lose an ear. Tears for Bill and Fleur, whose wedding day had been tarnished by Death Eaters.

Finally, they were tears for all who had died and all who would die, wizards and muggles alike. The innocent people who would be ripped from the earth because of a snake-like maniac. Tears.

Then it hit Ginny.

She was crying. For the first time in years, Ginevra Weasley was crying.
