"I'll check the upstairs, stay down here." I ordered.

Gazzy nodded in understanding and I started up the carpeted steps. There was a silence behind me, which should've meant that Gazzy was listening. But I knew him too well. He was quietly following me, making three claws out of his fingers.

Great. My right-hand man was still pretending to be a dinosaur.

"Stay down there!"

He didn't even pause for a moment.

In a whisper I called out, "Angel!"

There was nothing but an utter lack of life signs. Usually I could hear breathing, especially when it came to Angel and Gazzy, but there was no sound.

I heard the swish of feathers and Gazzy yell "Max!" That was all the warning I got before I was grabbed from behind.

Fang landed on the step beside me. "Iggy! I got Gazzy and Max!" He called.

"Angel and Nudge are still missing." Iggy reported as he stepped out of the bathroom. A moment later, Angel snuck into the bathroom behind him.

"Nudge is in our jail." I offered. "And I'd check on your flag before freeing her, if I were you."

Angel came skipping out of the bathroom, holding up the red flag victoriously.

"This is what we get for playing against the mind-reader. It's not fair." Fang complained.

Jeb called up from the foot of the stairs, "Dinner!"

I ran into the kitchen, where chicken nuggets and mac'n'cheese were waiting for us. After dinner, Jeb tucked us in. He turned out my light with a quiet "Goodnight, Max."

That was the last time anyone saw him before he went missing.
