Prompt #493 from tamingthemuse- Attentive
Note: From now on most of my tamingthemuse stories will be named as the challenge.
It was after two o'clock in the morning and Xander was snoring next to Spike. He always snored during the spring, it didn't matter if he took Benadryl or not hay fever would always hit him hard. Spike grew used to it over the last few years. It was actually comforting. Spike constantly worried that Xander would go to sleep and the next morning he wouldn't wake up. He was a healthy twenty-six year old but that didn't stop the fear. Xander agreed to let Spike turn him when he turned thirty. Only another three years, five months and thirteen days. But who was counting?
Spike picked up Xander's left hand and kissed the wedding band that was on Xander's ring finger. They had a ceremony last year. Xander told Spike it was only fair to have a human wedding if they were going to be mated for lifeā¦.unlife. While Spike thought it was utterly ridiculous in the end whatever Xander wanted Xander got. It didn't matter because either way they'd be together in life and in death.
A soft smile graced Spike's lips when he thought about how damn lucky he was. The day Angel offered Xander to him he had assumed just for a meal and nothing more. He was glad that Xander had gotten away from him that night. It would have been the biggest mistake of his entire existence.
Xander let out a loud snore that sounded like it had hurt. And from the moan Xander let out and his eyes opening Spike assumed it did.
Spike reached over Xander and grabbed his glass of water. When Xander sat up Spike pressed it against Xander's lips. A couple of gulps Spike removed it. "You all right, pet?"
The pressure on Xander's sinuses was almost unbearable. He couldn't wait for summer and to be able to breathe again. "Yeah." He let out a heavy breath. "Am I keeping your awake? I can move to the guestroom."
"Don't you dare," Spike said and pulled Xander against him. "I've just been watching you."
"You know some people might think that would be creepy," Xander commented but he loved how attentive Spike was with him.
Spike laughed and kissed Xander's temple. "Lucky for me you're not most people." He listened has Xander tried and failed to breath normally. "I wish I could do something for you, baby."
"Me too," Xander said with a yawn. "I'm going to try to get some more sleep. You should too."
"I will," Spike lied. How could he sleep when he had this magnificent mortal in his bed?
Xander buried his face in Spike's neck and placed a light kiss. Soon he was sleeping and snoring again.
Spike couldn't wait for Xander to turn thirty. He wouldn't be indestructible to everything unfortunately but he would never have to suffer another summer with hay fever ever again.
"You and me," Spike whispered. "We're gonna be together forever." He closed his eyes and Xander's snoring lulled him to sleep.
The End
