Shocking…Beautiful…Forbidden…They're strong words. Powerful even. But it's the last that we like to toy with. Even on days like this when the sun blazes in the sky. He feigns dehydration; I lift him into my arms. Somewhere in the distance, our targets squeal. We use this to our advantage because it is forbidden.
But what do you do when you begin to realize you no longer want it to be just an act? It's not like you can tell anyone. After all, it is forbidden.
Yet as I carry him, I walk a bit slower to the umbrella. He throws me a confused glance but I ignore this. I'm sure he suspects. No, I know he does. That's the kind of person he is. Only, I can't ease this confusion because it is forbidden.
A droplet of sweat lazily rolls down his cheek. He's asking me what's wrong. I tell him it's nothing. He says he won't accept that. It makes sense that he doesn't. We are twins. And that is why I can't say. I'm sure this would hurt him. The pain caused because it is forbidden.
That night he does something unexpected. He cries. There is no choice now. Slowly, I pour out my heart. I tell him everything. He sits there frozen, just listening. My mind is begging my mind to stop. My heart says otherwise. When I'm done, he still sits there…unmoving. Just as I thought. He cannot handle this because it is forbidden.
I run out into the sticky weather. It's safer here. Now, I don't have to see those golden eyes. But what have I done? Our relationship is over. We can never go back. Instead, we'll go our separate ways. All because I wanted more knowing that it is forbidden.
A gentle hand finds my shoulder. He has found me. Only now he is calm and wears a smile. I understand. He feels the same…he just hides it better than me. That night, ignoring the heat, we share our first kiss. We'll deal with the world later. This is love and we find it sweeter that it is…forbidden.
