For The Love of a Daughter

I'll look on that day, the day where her tears will steam down her face, the day where all she knew and loved walked out the door.

I'll be there for her, the kind heart pushing on my shoulder, asking me to join her on this most holy of days.

I'll take in her beauty, the eyes that want to see the world through hope, but the tears tinted them to a world of despair.

She won't see me that night as I cry.

Because I'll know that I'll need to be strong.

For the love of a daughter.

Years will pass, and I'll see her grow.

I'll see the person of kindness obscured by a massive array of gifts and luxuries.

She'll have everything she could want.

But nothing she'll need.

I'll convey the reports, the pictures, the stories, and I'll smile with each one.

But raw information will only do so much to touch your drowning heart.

You will approve, thank me, but then move on to a life that you'll deem too important for your daughter.

Oh sure, you won't say it.

You'll be far too professional for something like that.

But I'll know what you mean when you say an important business meeting is coming up that you have to leave for.

I won't tell her.

Because someone that precious needs hope in the love of a father.

She'll grow more.

And I'll wonder if you'll even recognize her.

You'll try doing what is best for her, but you'll fail to see how little money can truly buy.

You'll conquer the world, build your empire, but that too will fall.

I'll be there for that beautiful girl.

The girl that though no blood connects us, I will make my life.

I will give her the love of a father that you will not.

And through the mistakes I'll make, I'll see she loves me too.

I'll wish that you could know what it's like,

But I'll know this is the path you choose.

That you'll put your love into money and power.

Only to miss the most precious love of all.

The love of a daughter.

A/N: I was going through old files and came across this story, so thought I'd post it. I wrote it a couple years ago at the request of WoundedHearts, for a story based on the Demi Lavato song, "For the Love of a Daughter." If you couldn't pick up on it, this is Moseby's thoughts as he raised London, in lieu of Mr Tipton.
