"Edward? What is going on?" Bella chuckled. The only response was the cold hand covering her eyes pulling closer.
Edward gently led the curious girl up the porch stairs and into house, sitting her, eyes still covered, on the couch.
"I got you something, Bella. And I you are going to accept it without complaint, right?"
Bella sighed, nodding. It was part of his training her to "be a Cullen," she knew, but the gifts were getting ridiculous.
It was impossible to complain, though, when she looked to see the overwhelming look of love in those gold eyes.
"Edward! It's so—I mean—awww. Thankyouthankyouthankyou! I always wanted one!"
He would never tell her that this was simply a feeble attempt at a replacement.
"Bells! You up for some cl—what is that??" Jacob skidded to a stop in the entryway, glaring at the head of copper hair Bella was nuzzling happily.
"Isn't he just the cutest, Jake? Edward got him for me. Of course, I'll have to rename him. I mean, Jacob is not a name for a Pomeranian…"
And, suddenly, the note sitting on the dashboard in the Rabbit made sense.
I never said I'd play fair.
