Martha's Birthday
Clark, his mom and dad, are all seated around the dining room table. Clark says, "Gee mom, you must be taking cooking lessons. I had no idea." "No I'm not Clark, what makes you think that?" his Mother responds. "Well mom, this meal.it actually tastes good. I mean really, fairly good. Best you ever served." With his mouth full, Mr. Kent nods in agreement. The now embarrassed Mrs. Kent says, "But Clark, this is what I just picked up from Burger King and they forget the french fries again too." "Maybe cooking classes aren't a bad idea after all dear". Mr. Kent says.
"Mom, since it IS your birthday, I have something for you." Clark hands her a birthday present all wrapped in brightly colored paper." With a big smile, his mom says,"Oh, my, are you giving me your super hero comic collection?" "Don't be silly Mother, you know I'd never do that!" an angered Clark says. "I bought this with money from my job"
Martha unwraps the brightly colored Sunday comics used as wrapping paper. She opens the box and gazes in. Her mouth agape, she sees numerous items inside. Removing a small plastic box, a puzzled Martha asks Clark what it is. He says, "It's a make-up kit mom. You put it on your face and stuff. Try it some time." Why thank you Clark", she says with a grin. Reaching in again she then pulls out a bottle of mouth wash. "Its 'frosty mint' mom", a proud Clark says. Mr. Kent says, "That's just what she needs too. Good thinking Clark." She reaches in again and pulls out some deodorant. Mr. Kent says, "that's what she REALLY needs!" Everyone laughs.
Both Clark and Martha look toward Mr. Kent. Befuddled he says, "uh..dear, I have your present too. But I think I left it in Wal-Mart. Yaaa that's it. I'll have it for you tomorrow, maybe" Tears of joy stream down Marthas wrinkled cheeks. After composing herself, Martha says, "How thoughtful of you two. This is my best birthday ever!"
