Author Note:
I was going through my old fics and thought I had better start finishing them, and seeing as I've gotten back into Skyland decided on finishing this one, however while re-reading through the story to re-grasp the plot I kept cringing at how I wrote this; to be fair it was started over 10 years ago.
There was quite a few plot holes and inconsistencies that I want to fix up before writing any new chapters, and hopefully Little Ozzy will get an ending to his story this time.
I'll leave the old chapters up and just update them as I go along, so people can still read through the story so far.
For this story I've added some more Sphere Commanders and even a group known as the Admins, this is because of 2 things.
1. The Sphere is too large a organization to be managed by one person
2. In the first episode Oslo states he and Mila could wrest control of the Sphere from the fools that control it - meaning despite everything Oslo isn't in control of the Sphere.
Also a quick random theory about Oslo that I came up with while watching the first episode again, I noticed each time he used his powers he was using his left hand; so I'm going to go with the theory that Oslo is left handed.
Anywho I'll quit rambling so you guy's can get to the story, here it is the first re-written chapter of A Lost Oslo, ad I'll try to get the second one done soonish.
As Always reviews and criticism are welcome, flames will be used to bake cookies for our soon to be sweet little Ozzy. :3
Chapter One (The meeting)
Clear Blue Skies Patched with a few Scrawny white clouds surrounded the Monolith.
A group of small uninhabited blocks floated aimlessly around a much larger one, the giant ship's destination.
A nameless scientific R&D station hidden deep within Sphere controlled territory. Only it's resident scientists and the most senior members of the Sphere knew of it's existence.
The Monolith slowed to a crawl as it prepared to dock, two of it's inhabitants decidedly unhappy with having to travel so far out of their way to reach the station.
Commander Oslo and his second in command Di-Wan stood silently in a descending elevator , they were on their way to the deck they would disembark from.
A sudden unexpected jolt caused the pair to off balance and stumble, causing Oslo's mood to sour further.
"Once we return I want the idiot responsible for that punished severely." He snapped at Di-Wan.
"Yes Commander Oslo. But I could see to it at once if you did not require me at this meeting." Di-Wan replied, once again trying to get out of going to the meeting.
"When we return will be soon enough! Or are you trying to humiliate me even more that the fool who scrapped against the block with my ship has?!" He snapped back.
"Sir I do not understand why my presence is so vital to this meeting." Di-Wan replied automatically with out thinking.
"Because the other Commanders will have their second in commands with them. How will it look if mine was not present?" He snarled shooting her a look that seemed to say 'fool'.
"Yes Commander, please forgive my insolence." Di-Wan bowed in apology.
"Bah!" Oslo waved her off, stalking out the elevator doors as they had finally reached the correct deck.
Di-Wan took a deep breath to compose herself before following just behind her commander.
He'd been acting this way ever since receiving the 'invitation' to come here, well it had been less of an invitation and more of an order.
As when the Admins of The Sphere invited you somewhere you had no choice but to show up, to decline their invitation was the same as committing treason; and you were instantly marked for execution.
Outside the Monolith a brigade of Brigadiers stood silently to attention, on either side of a gangway leading to another elevator.
This time they went up, Di-Wan watched silently as they rose higher and higher; until they well above even the Monolith's imposing height.
As their ascent slowed the pair turned to face the doors behind them, Once open they stepped out into a circular room; the far side of which was cloaked in shadow.
Di-Wan looked about the room, inspecting it for any possible danger she noticed the other four Sphere commanders; their seconds all standing proudly one step behind their superiors.
Oslo made sure he kept enough distance from the others as not to be part of their group, and also close enough so they did not think him afraid. He hated the fools, and loathed to be near them; but knew it unwise to openly show his hostility towards them.
"Trouble docking that monstrosity Oslo?" One of the Commanders taunted, the others sniggering at the taunt.
Oslo's body stiffened, fists clenching behind his back; refusing to rise to their bait he instead focused his attention on the strange machine and familiar scientist in the middle of the room.
From the other side of the room a sudden booming voice startled Di-Wan. "Now that everyone is present we can finally begin the demonstration!"
'It must be the Admins' Di-Wan thought, As far as she knew no one had seen the Admins and lived to tell about it; their anonymity was key to protecting them from the Rebel Pirates.
"You may proceed Professor Ye." The same voice boomed.
"Uh, y yes sir." The ageing professor replied nervously.
He knew his machine wasn't ready for testing, but had little say in the matter; so silently prayed that it would work.
"I have been working on a machine that will produce rain clouds. Depending on the commands I input, the size and nature of the clouds can be modified. From clouds that will bring a light shower, to ones that will create a mighty thunderstorm. It works by taking in the Hydrogen and Oxygen molecules found naturally in our atmosphere and combining them…" A commander interrupted the professor before he could continue his excited rambling.
"So you're saying The Sphere could control the weather?"
Professor Ye startled at the question. "Ah… Well, not exactly. We could control when and where artificial rain clouds would appear." He replied cautiously.
"So we could control the weather." The same commander stated.
"I… Uh, well I suppose so." Professor Ye confirmed defeatedly, shrinking at the commander's cruel smirk.
"There is one setback however." The professor stated, wiping the smug smirk off the commander's face.
"And what is that Professor?" A stern voice queried from the gloom hiding the Sphere Admins.
"The machine will require a large amount of energy provided by a Seijin to work." He replied simply.
This provoked murmurs from both Admins and Commanders.
Oslo who had been slowly moving further away from his fellow Commanders muttered darkly under his breath. "The old fools had better not select me."
"Sir?" Di-Wan murmured quietly in question of her superiors statement, surely it would be an honour to help in creating the first artificial rain clouds.
"Come now Di-Wan, think!" He hissed back at her, his voice never raising above a whisper. "The Admins are hardly likely to supply the energy themselves. No, they will chose a Commander; and that commander will instantly be marked a threat by the others."
"I don't understand Sir." Di-Wan admitted, causing Oslo to sigh in frustration at her ignorance of the Sphere's inner-politics and it's perils. "Tch. Because it will appear as if the Admins have a favourite amongst us." Di-Wan's look of understanding was enough confirmation for Oslo to allow his attention to return to the situation at hand. He noticed that the other Commanders had placed distance between themselves, suspicious glances being thrown at each other.
"Commander Oslo, would you supply the energy for this test run." The first Admin voice boomed out. It had been phrased like a question, but all knew it was an inescapable order.
"Damn it." Oslo hissed under his breath before respectfully replying out loud. "Yes of course."
He stepped forward making his way down to Professor Ye, he could feel the other Commanders sneering glares on his back. 'Damn fools knew I didn't want to stir things up with the others any more that they were.' Oslo fumed inside his head as he came to a stop in front of the nervous professor.
"All right Professor Ye, you'll have all the power you need so get on with it." Snapped another hidden Admin, they were all growing impatient.
"y yes, of course. Commander Oslo I'll need you to place at least one of your hands here." He explained, motioning to a panel that looked similar to a solar panel. "And then I'll need you to start channeling your energy into it until the machine reaches full charge."
"Very well." Oslo replies boredly, he places his left hand and waits.
At the professors signal he began to channel his energy into the surprisingly energy hungry machine, he frowned when the older man motioned for more energy.
Somewhere in the room he heard someone make a remark about him being too weak to power a simple machine, furious Oslo gritted his teeth and forced a surge of stored energy into the machine.
"Ah, ah. Co Commander that's enough energy, thank you." Professor Ye cried out sounding slightly panicked. Oslo opened his eyes, unsure when he had closed them.
The sudden loss of so much energy had left him out of breath and more than a little light headed, but he hid his fatigue well; turning on his heel and beginning to stalk back to Di-Wan.
Strange sounds from the machine and despair filled murmurs from the professor stopped him. He turned back around facing the machine, snapping at the professor before anyone else could speak. "What's happening!?"
"It it's malfunctioning! Ohhh I knew it wasn't ready!" Professor Ye shouted in despair as he slowly backed away from the machine.
The others all backed away as far as the walls would allow, Seijin energy shields appearing; someone using their power to pull the professor behind the safety of their shield.
Oslo started to back away from machine, only for the light headedness to return in full force causing him to stagger. Before he could regain his balance or even attempt to raise a shield the machine exploded!
Blinding white light filled the room and Di-Wan's cry of "Commander Oslo!" was drowned out by a deafening boom.
The blast was strong enough to knock everyone off their feet despite their shields, leaving them all temporarily stunned; unable to move or make a sound.
Caught in the middle of the explosion Oslo felt pain, yes, but something else, something strange.
Blinding white faded into soothing darkness, thunderous booming into absolute silence. Oslo could've sworn he felt the world slipping away before he sank into blissful unconsciousness.
