She sighed as she sat on the couch with her head turned to look out the window. The fireworks had already started even though it wasn't midnight yet and happy voices sounded from time to time. She wanted nothing more than to be another happy voice out there, partying with people around her. Instead she sat inside with tears flowing from her eyes and it wasn't the only wet thing flowing as she held the wine bottle in her hand.
Outside he walked unseen through the sea of happy people, determined to get to his goal. The light from her window was glowing from afar and his eyes never left it as he moved in closer, watching her sitting on the couch. She looked out but she didn't see him in the darkness but he saw her clearly. He saw her sadness and how the tears streamed down her face. He had to get in there.
Slowly he approached the front door, finding it unlocked. It didn't surprise him. She was determined in what she was doing just like he was. Not that a locked door would have stopped him from entering. He just liked doing it the normal way, the human way, to make the people inside relax around him even though not many of them did once they realized what he was there to do. He closed the door behind him and walked through the house, his feet making no sound at all. She looked up at him as he entered the livingroom.
"So you do exist," she said.
"I do and you called me here," he said.
"I did," she nodded sadly. "Do you have a name?"
"I go by many names but none of them is an actual name," he said.
She nodded again as she tried to control her breathing. So far she was making it easy on him and he got a feeling she wouldn't put up any fight at all.
"I would have liked for you to have a name," she sighed.
"You can name me if you like," he offered.
"Really?" A little sparkle went through her eyes. "How about Baron?"
"Baron?" He chuckled. "Isn't that a title?"
"It is but also a strong name. And I can pretend to be your baroness for a little while," she said.
"You got about one minute left to do that," he said.
"Come join me," she patted the spot next to her.
He moved over, his feet still making no sound at all, and sat down next to her.
"Baron," she said again.
She reached a shaky hand up to touch his cheek, barely any strength left in her arm. He closed his eyes by her touch and allowed her to pull him down for a kiss. He had many different experiences with these humans but she was the first one asking for a kiss, a kiss that he granted her, feeling how soft her lips were as she moved them against his.
The kiss was broken by the sound of something hitting the floor. She looked down to see the broken wine bottle lying there that she had been holding with her other hand that she had now dropped. It hadn't broken in the fall. She had broken it earlier. She looked at her arm that was no longer shaking but still touching this creature. It was covered with the blood from her open vein. She knew her one minute was up.
"Ready to go?" He asked.
"Where are you taking me?" She asked.
"Somewhere you'll never feel pain again," he answered.
"Will I be alone?" She asked.
"No, others like you are there," he answered.
"Like me?" She asked.
"Other humans," he smiled.
"And you?" She asked.
"You won't see me again," he said.
"What a shame. You have such a beautiful face," she said.
