No matter how much Leighton tried to pretend, their chemistry was undeniable. Critics and fans rated "Blair" and "Chuck" the hottest couple on the show. As much as she denied it to herself, you honestly couldn't deny the obvious chemistry between her and Ed. To him, it was just acting, but to her, it was much more. Sometimes Ed would catch her staring at him longingly.
"Leight?" he would ask in his irresistible British accent. "Are you alright, mate?"
"Yeah," She would respond, snapping out of her trance. "I was just thinking about something."
"Alright," he would smile at her while gently stroking her cheek with his finger. "See you on set."
Just a simple touch from him ignited feelings inside of her she couldn't stop. Something so intimate, yet so innocent was all it took. She often couldn't tell during scenes when Ed stared at her a second too long if he was still in his "Chuck" mentality, or if it was Ed.
Damn, these feelings, she often found herself cursing. Things were so much less complicated for her when they didn't exist. There was a time where she saw him like a little brother. But after the Victor, Victrola scene, things changed. At least for her. Everything about that limo scene, felt so real. Too real for her. In multiple interviews, he would joke about them "fake shagging", and often told reporters she was his favorite person to work with. They were quite good friends after all.
Her feelings became bearable when she met Sebastian. She felt an immediate connection but for different reasons. Maybe it was because she was so desperate to rid her feelings for Ed that anyone who paid good enough attention to her seemed to fill the void. And then when Ed began seeing their fellow co-star and friend, Jessica, her feelings seemed to be disappearing. That was until Blair and Chuck began developing their relationship more on the show. This meant more scenes with Ed, particularly more intimate scenes. And there came that chemistry and those feelings she couldn't resist. She was falling hard for Ed and he had no idea.
During one of their interviews, a reporter asked the same repetitive question all the others did, just a different variation.
"Your chemistry between you is undeniable. Are you sure there isn't more than what meets the eye?" The reporter asked.
Leighton always remained silent.
Ed smiled, "Sorry to disappoint everyone, but we're really just good friends. It's just our luck we have such great chemistry. I mean look at her. Who wouldn't? But in actuality, she's like a big sister to me. A hot big sister who I get to "shag" onscreen from time to time. But a sister nonetheless."
And then they would look at each other and laugh, and continue the interview.
But that feeling still remained.
Inside her heart would sink, because as much as she knows it isn't possible for them to be together, she wished they were. She found herself wishing she could tell him how she felt, and he feel the same.
But instead she is stuck with that same miserable feeling.
Unrequited love.
