Yantoshi sat on the hill, and a tear trickled down his yellow cheek.
Who says Poogles can't cry?
Nearby, Sniffles the Snarhook sat under a tree, sheltering himself from the pouring rain, whilst he watched his owner mourn.
Yantoshi missed his Peophin. She was beautiful. Painted silver. In the water she shimmered, like some wonderful mirage. Yantoshi wondered if that's all she had been.
He turned his head briefly, to watch two baby Chias giggle as they ran toward their mother, who held out raincoats for them.
Then he hung his head again in dispair.
"Would it ever have worked out?" He murmured to himself. "Even if she hadn't met that damn Jetsam, would she want me then?" He gritted his teeth in anguish, at the memory of seeing his beloved Peophin swim away with a striking fire Jetsam.
Sniffles shook the raindrops off his nose, then trotted across the soggy grass to sit beside his master.
"Oh, Sniffles. At least I still have you." Yantoshi said, mournfully. "Come on. Let's go home. Jump on my back, I'll carry you."
Sniffles obliged, and the pair walked back down the hill into Meri Acres Farm once again.
