Inside

"Kevin, please, listen to my voice..." it said reproachfully. That struck him as odd, no-body over talked to him that way, not recently anyway. But there was something else, the voice it sounded... familiar, like... like ... her. Kevin struggled against the haze obscuring his view, "you don't have to do this... Please..." finally he could see, he could properly see, but he couldn't believe it, it just wasn't possible. Before him stood a girl, she was small -but not short- and slender, fifteen years old, her long crimson hair pulled back off her beautiful face into a ponytail, her emerald green eyes wide and filled with nothing but concern. She wasn't scared. Kevin knew this girl, of course he did, he'd known her for months, years if you counted back far enough. That was what shocked him, 'she couldn't be here'. What was left of his mind told him. 'It's just not...'

Then he remembered. The cloud that had been covering his thoughts cleared and he remembered it all. Gwen! That was her name and he... he... he loved her, yes that was it, he'd seen her d-. No. This wasn't possible, she couldn't be here. The witch must be doing one of her trick again, to torture him for her own entertainment. Kevin glanced to the left; the witch was there, as always, but the arrogant sneer that normally occupied her face, replaced by a mixture of shock and Loathing. she wasn't doing this to him. He returned his attention back the girl. Gwen. And it engulfed him, his most despised memory, the one he'd almost been happy to forget. Almost.

"Back off Charmcaster" Gwen screamed, shooting blasts of her pink mana at the platinum haired witch and her skeletal uncle. The witch and her uncle laughed "Oh dear Gwendolyn" the uncle jaunted, hovering besides his niece "You don't think that just by telling us to leave we will do you?" They laughed again "Oh yes Uncle" the witch giggled "I Must Obey" she said in a flat monotone, holding her arms out in front of her, acting zombie-like. "I don't care if you're obeying me or not, I just want you out of here!"Gwen yelled shooting again "Yeah right" the witch sneered while her uncle said "Now why would we do them my dear? When we still have so much to gain" Gwen screamed, shooting again "How, Dare. You. Come. Here!" she screeched between blasts of mana "How. Dare. You. Kidnap. My Family!" The witch yawned "Charmcaster" the uncle said ignoring the oncoming blasts "Would you like to do the honours?" The witch smirked "it would be my pleasure Uncle" she floated forward, her hands alight with purple magic and thrust her arms forward sending an overpowering blast down at the red head. There was a sickening ear-splitting scream, then silence, only broken by the malicious laughter from the two magician's mouths.

That was the worst moment in Kevin's life, seeing her crumpled on the floor, unmoving, heavily bleeding. He'd rushed to her aid, discovering the worst. He'd taken her lifeless body in his arms and cried, for the first time in his life, Kevin cried not for himself, or to gain anything. Kevin simply cried because he couldn't stop, because the pain was too much. Without her, without Gwen he was nothing.

Then the witch came and took it all away, took everything away, all the pain and sorrow, all the feeling, all his memories. Everything.

She'd forced him to do things, things he couldn't stop, despite his efforts; he couldn't speak, not see, nor feel. He was under her control.

But it hadn't worked, Kevin could remember, he could see her. Gwen, he could see her in front of him. Looking hopeful and concerned. Something clicked inside of his head and he lost it all again, all but the faint outline of the thought of her, of Gwen. The girl that would never be his.
