Blue. Nothing but blue. Alice thought as she stared up at the never ending shade of sky. The color almost perfectly matched her eyes. Happiness. She thought, as she savored the fluttering petals at her arm. That was what blue had been to her as a child.
Six years ago, only a girl of ten at the time, blue had been happiness. Blue had been safety. It was the color of her favorite day, the shade of her brightest smile; nothing about blue was bad. Blue had been innocence. Carefree innocence. She sighed.
Thinking back now everything about being young had seemed exciting. Everything had been an adventure; you could do anything you wanted as a kid. She just wished she had that back. Life right now was just going through the motions day after day.
Alice sat up from the flowered field, grass and petals tapping her lightly from the breeze. Ash blonde hair falling just a little past her shoulders, she sat cross legged in a white spaghetti strap tank top and light blue jeans. Alice glanced around her childhood "playground", if you could hardly call a field that. She could barely make out her house in the distance, and to her other side was nothing but a line of encircling trees from the encroaching forest.
Pulling herself up, Alice meandered her way towards the trees, enjoying the soft grass at her feet. Walking nowhere in particular, lost in her own thoughts.
Suddenly Alice put her foot down and there was no ground to catch her. She could feel herself falling, there was no ground anywhere. Trying to force a scream out of her throat for help. Shit. Then she hit something hard, coming down with the full force of her body. Everything started blurring together, then darkness took over.
