Author's Note: I hope you all enjoy this little ficlet. It came into my head and simply wouldn't leave, until I wrote it down.

I could smell her before I even laid eyes upon her. She smelled like Lavender and Lilies after the rain, but instead of the smell making my mouth water I felt a painful tug in my lifeless heart. My topaz eyes scanned the lunch room, trying to find out who this scent belonged to. My sight fell upon her a slender girl sitting with a few kids, a dark curtain of hair concealing her face from my view.

"That's Isabella Swan, but she likes to be called Bella," whispered Alice, but when I jerked around, guilty from being caught staring at this new girl, Alice was speaking to Edward not me. I squinted at my brother, seeing the hungry glint in his eyes and realized I wasn't the only one who was affected by this girl's smell. However, his eyes were growing dark, quickly turning black and I knew that the scent she was giving off was affecting him in a much different way.

"Edward," I said, giving him a warning. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a flicker of movement coming from the girl. I turned to see her scanning the lunch room as if looking for someone. Her eyes finally rested on Edward, a look of surprise showing on her face. Slowly her pale cheeks filled with color, a deep red staining her features. I quickly put her face to my memory. Closing my eyes I could see her prominent cheek bones and heavily lidded dark eyes. In a word, she was beautiful.

I felt a nudge from my right and turned to see Rosalie a glare on her gorgeous features. She angrily tucked a strand of blond hair behind her ear and then, possessively, reached over and took my hand in hers. I never could hide anything from her and instantly I felt ashamed for feeling the things I did when looking at the new girl, Bella.

"I can't hear her thoughts," Edward said shortly, breaking me from my own thoughts.

"What are you talking about?" Alice asked, her pixie-like face staring at Edward quizzically.

"I tried to listen to her thoughts, but it's…it's as if her mind is a blank canvas," he sounded worried, making my own stomach churn uneasily.

"That's…strange," I said, choosing my wording carefully. I turned to look at the girl once more, and noticed her whisper something to the short girl next to her. Jessica, at least I think that's her name, turned to look at the four of us and a look of disdain crossed her features. I could see her whisper something back to Bella and then Bella turning and looking at us again a look of wonderment mixed with confusion resting on her beautiful features.

Her eyes traveled across the four of us before finally settling on Edward. Her cheeks lit with crimson again as she stared at him, but it was as if she could not look away. In that moment, I looked again at my brother and saw the way he was staring back at Bella, their eyes locked. A surge of white hot fury rose up inside of me and I could feel Jasper's eyes on me, wondering what it was that had me so angry.

I quickly stood from my seat, ripping my hand away from Rosalie, and strode from the lunch room. The girl, however, would not leave my head, even though I knew she would soon be Edward's.
