Dear Journal or whoever found this:

I don't know who you are, or even what happened to me. I might still be alive and dropped this, or maybe of those monsters got me before I could get it. And I killed myself in order to not become one of them. Whatever the case I am glad someone out there found this, because this is my story, my life.

My name is Jamie Alison Root born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I was like any other normal teen, mother, father, a younger sister and brother, had friends, and did some underage drinking, got in trouble with the law. Was in sports (rugby and hockey) I went to prom, I had a boyfriend, I graduated. Than went to university to get a teaching degree, I made friends who I thought would be there with me forever, had my first apartment, graduated with honours.

I moved to the states (yay for dual citizenship!) Atlanta to be exact, found a fantastic job teaching a grade one class. And a wonderful man who became the love of my life. We found this wonderful little house on the outskirts of the city, it was a little bit of a fixer upper but it would give me something to do during the summer.

This house was my pride and joy. A beautiful white wrap around porch against the light blue of the siding of my house, apple trees in the back with a medium sized garden. Andrew and I had three dogs and one cat. A Dalmatian named Frankie, Great Dane named Captain and a beautiful black and white husky with one green eye and one blue eye named Knight, our cat was a silly little Scottish Fold named Wonder.

And that was my life, a wonderful job teaching children, surrounded by friends and animals, a fantastic boyfriend. But then… the epidemic happened… or what they call an epidemic we called it the apocalypse or the end of the world.

The day was March 10, 2010…and it was the day that changed everything…this is my story…our story.
