Prologue

"But Mom! You promised!" Gabriella shouted at her mother early one summer evening.

"Yes, Gabby, I know I did, but things change, I can't help it that the company needs me in Michigan. I really can't. You know how things are honey," her mother replied.

Gabriella fought back the tears that brimmed in her eyes, when they moved to New Mexico, her mother said that this would be the last time they moved till she graduated, and she had truly believed that she would be able to graduate with her new friends, Taylor, Martha, Chad, and most importantly, Troy. Just the thought of not spending her senior year with the best friends she's ever had, made her sick to her stomach.

"So why can't I just spend the year with Taylor's family?! Michigan's only a flight away I can visit you on weekends," she said, Gabriella would do anything to make her mother change her mind.

Gabriella's mom sighed and kissed her daughter on the forehead, "Gabby, you know I would never allow that, you're all I have, and I want you with me in Michigan. I want you to spend your last year of high school with me till I have to let you go off to some college," she took a pause, " I told my boss we would be all packed to go in three days."

Finally, Gabriella allowed the tears to fall, "You're horrible Mother! This isn't fair!"

She whipped around and ran up the stairs to her room and slammed the door. How on earth was she going to say good-bye to everyone in three days? And more importantly how on earth was she going to tell her friends that she had to go in the first place? Instead of spending the rest of her summer working at the country club with her friends, when things just were starting to go right, she had to say good-bye. Gabriella picked up her phone, if she was going to make her last few days in New Mexico last, she had to start now.

"Hello?" the familiar voice said on the other end.

Gabriella couldn't speak, instead, she embraced the tears that had begun to fall back downstairs in the presence of her mother.

"Gabby? Is that you? What's wrong?"

"I'm moving Troy," she said through her sobs, "In three days."

"What?! I thought you were here till graduation!" Troy said on the other end.

"That's what I thought too, but looks my mom lied, once again. I don't want to leave you yet. Not when we just finally worked everything out between us, it will be too hard."

Gabriella could hear Troy breathe through the receiver, "We'll work this out Gabby. I promise. This will only make us stronger… I promise."

A/N: So this is the prologue! Yeah, I know it's short but I needed something to set up the story! Don't worry Troypay will get there. I won't just jump right into their relationship though, because that would never happen. Please comment and review, it's been a while since I wrote a story for this site! I want to know what you guys think so far! The next chapter should be up by tomorrow:)
