Another Thomas rewrite, this time it's "The Runaway" from Season 2. Enjoy and comment.

One day, Thomas the Tank Engine was feeling ill.

The workmen had worked hard to make him feel better, but it was no use.

"Edward must take you to the Works." said Sir Topham Hatt.

Thomas felt very miserable.

Later, Sir Topham Hatt spoke to Duck.

"I want you to help Toby and Percy while Thomas is away."

Duck was delighted. He had already met Percy, and soon was friends with Toby and Bertie.

Terence the Tractor gave him a big welcome too.

"Take care of Thomas's coaches!" he said. "He is sure to miss them while he's gone."

Duck was very gentle with Annie and Clarabel.

Annie and Clarabel were impressed.

"What a nice, polite engine!" they said. "It's really a pleasure to go out with him."

When Thomas arrived back, Annie and Clarabel told him how nice Duck was to them.

Thomas was very pleased.

The workmen had left Thomas's handbrake very stiff.

It made his brakes seem harder, when in fact, they were not.

Because of this, Thomas and his coaches, sometimes missed the station platforms!

This made Thomas feel embarrassed.

Soon, Thomas's driver and fireman learned to be extra careful.

One day, Thomas's fireman felt ill, and a relief-man took his place.

The relief-man coupled Thomas up to Annie and Clarabel, then joined Thomas's driver and the stationmaster to wait for Henry's passengers.

But the relief-man had forgotten about Thomas's handbrake!

"Henry won't be long!" he thought.

Then, Henry approached the station, but soon, Thomas felt his wheels begin to move!

Thomas tried to stop, but he couldn't without his driver and the relief-man!

He tried to whistle, but he couldn't do that either!

Everyone was stuck on the platform!

"STOP! STOP!" screamed Annie and Clarabel.

But Thomas kept on going!

The emergency alarm went off.

"Stop the runaway!" cried the signalman.

There, ready for action, was Harold the Helicopter!

His inspector had made a plan, and together they took off into the sky.

At last, Thomas began to slow down.

"I need to stop, I need to stop!" he panted.

As he approached the next station, he saw Harold the Helicopter land.

The inspector quickly jumped into Thomas's cab, and screwed in the brake, stopping Thomas.

Both him and the inspector were very relieved.

Then, they thanked Harold.

"Glad to be helpful!" called Harold.

Thomas was relieved, but hoped he would never cause another runaway ever again.
