Pain. That's all Ginny Weasley thought as she saw her brother's body lying on the table with all the other dead bodies. She was so shocked she didn't notice the silent tears falling down her face. Fred didn't deserve to die. He had the joke shop and had just started his life. It wasn't fair. She wiped her face and turned around. They were going to pay.
She was fighting. Death Eaters were shooting curses everywhere, but none seemed to hit this redhead. She was exhausted and sweaty and just wanted the war to end. But when the fighting ended, she almost wished for it to start again.
"You see?" said Voldemort. "Harry Potter is dead! Do you understand now, deluded ones? He was nothing, ever, but a boy who relied on others to sacrifice themselves for him!"
No. She kept telling herself this over and over. First Fred, now Harry? It was as if the world wanted her destroyed, to live with nothing worth living for. No. No. No! NO! She was screaming now, both inside and outside of her head. Hermione and Ron were screaming and tears were leaving tracks through their dirt covered, sweaty faces.
"He was killed while trying to sneak out of the castle grounds," said Voldemort, and there was relish in his voice for the lie, "killed while trying to save himself ─"
As Neville jumped forward to meet Voldemort, all Ginny could feel was horror. She wanted to stop him but she felt like led. She felt as if she would fall if she moved. She watched the scene go on with horror and pain in her eyes. She watched as the only person she had ever loved lied there, dead. She watched as her friend challenged Voldemort. Ginny was engaged in battle soon and all she thought as she fought was, Have to fight. Have to live. Have to get back at Voldemort. Have to fight. Have to live for them. Ginny felt herself miss death by an inch and she shook herself. She needed to focus. She felt her mother push her aside and she watched her mother fight Bellatrix with her heart in her mouth. Can't let her die. Have to fight. Can't let her die! Have to get back at Bellatrix and Voldemort. Have to fight and live for those who died.
Harry revealed himself unharmed and Ginny felt pride form in her chest. He was alive! She felt the gnawing pain in her heart lessen. He's alive! He's alive! She watched Harry fight Voldemort and waited for Harry to kill him. She waited for him to come back and hold her in his arms. She wasn't worried anymore. If Harry could survive that many times, there was no way he would die now. She loved him and knew he would be back with her soon. She knew he would be alright.
The pain lessened considerably. But there will always be a place in her heart where there is pain. There is pain for those who died and for those would soon die. There was pain for those who lost a loved one to Voldemort. She knew what it felt like now and there will always be a pain that will never go away. But that's what you get when you fight in a war.
