"James, you idiot, you can't be here. Miss Allen will kill you." I said looking over my sweaty shoulders to look at him.I was working on her garden.

"Aw hush Lilith. She can't catch me if she doesn't know I did anything." He explained. I laughed. He's such a dork, I thought.

"Fine, what do you want to do?" I asked standing up and brushing off the dirt from my hands on my worn out jeans. He only shrugged and grabbed my wrist.

"Come with me." He told me as he led me around the back of the crappiest three story house in all of Brooklyn. As we rounded the corner I followed him up our big oak tree, to the spot we go to think, together, or alone. I love this spot mostly because
the people in the house can't see you and because of the view, it's a beautiful park with children and lots of trees. It's a small but magnificent park.I've never been there in my 13 years of living, James and I had planned thatas soon as we
wereadopted we'd head straight to that park, where we'd swing on the playground.

"Ok, what?" I said looking over at him, his blond hair was short, but he always styles it with the gel he bought from the gas station with the money he stole from Miss Allen. His eyes where sparkling blue, like the lake over in the park. Every onesays
mine are blue green, like the sea, but more blue.

"Let's just talk." He says leaning back on the sturdy branch and resting his feet on the other one in front of us. I do the same.

"Okay, but you do know we're going to get in trouble right?" He rolls his eyes.

"What is it with you today and getting in trouble? You usually get yourself throw into the basement two times a day. And I'm trying to talk you out of it." He laughs.

"Well, I guess that since it's my 13th birthday tomorrow, I'm losing hope in getting adopted, and that I'm going to rot here like Lauren did until she was old enough to leave." A few tears slid down my cheeks.

"Hey, hey, hey. You remember our plan right? Adopted or not, we are going to go to that park. In fact, tomorrow after school, screw chores, we are going to that park. Ok?" He told me as he sat up. I laughed a little.

"What is with this new adventurous James? I kind of like him." I laughed. "But ok. We're going." We locked eyes for a long time. It was broken when Miss Allen shouted our names, proclaiming she was going to kill us. We rolled out eyes.

"Ugh, guess who's gonna miss out on dinner?" He said as we started our way down the tree. I stop him by grabbing his hand.

"Hey, I'll take the blame for this one ok? I owe you one from the time I took the cheese for Sara." He only nodded silently, but I could tell he didn't approve of the decision.

When we hit the ground Miss Allen trudged over to us and yelled in our face.

"YOU LITTLE BUMBLESNIPERS THINK YA'LL CAN HIDE UNDA MY NOSE BUT YOU GONNA GET IT." Her breath reeked of beer and cigarettes. You could tell she was extremely drunk, I assumed she got stood up again by 'Brett' her boyfriend of 2weeks. I don't blame
him, I wouldn't want to date a drug addicted guy with a daughter who's probably the snobbiest thing in the world either.

My punishment was not as bad as I thought, a few hits and no dinner. James didn't have a scratch on him and he ate, so did Sara, that's all that mattered. I didn't get much sleep, I was too excited for tomorrow, the park is going tobe so much fun.
I can't wait, I thought. And with that I fell asleep and had the best nights rest in days...
