In that instant, everything changed. In that instant, everything made sense and nothing made sense. In that instant, Chloe understood why Clark was so secretive. She understood why he freaked out when he saw the Wall. She understood why he was always the one to save her.

But that was why she couldn't understand. Clark didn't fit the Smallville freak mold. Most freaks were destructive. They were bloodthirsty. They didn't care. Clark was just so…nice. He was a nice guy. He had issues, but in the end, when you need him, he's there.

Chloe had been in weirder situations. She'd been in scarier situations. She'd been in situations at which even the least reputable tabloids would laugh. Yet, so far, none had been so hard to believe.

Clark was a meteor freak. Clark had picked up an automobile and thrown it as though it were nothing. Clark, her Clark, her perfectly normal, Clark was meteor freak. He was supposed to be the one stable thing in her life. He was supposed to be her pillar.

How was it that her pillar was a meteor freak? Sure, Kyle had been fine, but most meteor freaks were just that—freaks. Maybe only the ones of whom she knew were freaks. Maybe most of the town had been affected by meteors. Maybe she was the only normal one. Though, that would make her abnormal.

Maybe she was hallucinating. Chloe had sent so many people to Belle Reve, but maybe she was the one who belonged there. Maybe her mother's genes were finally kicking in. Maybe Clark was just like everyone else.

That's what Chloe wanted to believe. Because in the end, losing her sanity was better than losing the one thing that kept her sane.
