The Thing
Last night it was late, and I was sleeping
Underneath a tree, when I heard it creeping
It made a scary sort of sound
And crawled its way down
What did you see?
What did you see?
Its face was green and covered in slime
Its eyes shifted 'round as it pondered its crime
I lay, not a breath, while it gazed in my face
Mesmerized by those eyes, paralyzed in this place
I couldn't cry out but I wanted to run
As it sat thinking torturing me was much fun
The mouth opened up and I saw its sharp teeth
Chunks of its last meal made them a Christmastime wreath
What did you do?
What did you do?
My heart, it was running a marathon mile
While my eyes were still fixed on that creepy green smile
It pawed me and clawed me with heavy fat feet
Like he wanted to know if I was good 'nuf to eat
When suddenly a sound rang out all through the trees
It cocked its head upwards and ignored me
I took that moment to tear away, off to the beach
Lay down on a rock and prayed I was out of its reach
I lay there awake for most of the night
Still writhing in terror, still shivering in fright
Who knows where that wretched creature is as we speak?
How quiet will it be the next time it sneaks?
Is it in the shadows, waiting, watching all that we do,
On its haunches, ready for action, coiled and waiting to spring
on...YOU!!!!
