So Kind

"Mommy can I have some more?" Jasmine asked at the dinner table.

"Sure you can sweetheart." Jackie answered as she put another piece of pizza on the child's plate.

"More corn too?" Jazz asked.

"Sure." Jackie said as she gave her a couple more spoonfuls of corn.

Nick and Jackie looked at each other and shrugged, Jasmine was usually a good eater but she usually didn't have seconds, by the way she was eating tonight you'd of thought she hadn't eaten for a week.

"Jazz didn't you eat lunch today?" Jackie asked her.

"No, I didn't mommy." She answered.

"Why not kiddo?" Jackie asked.

"Because there is this girl named Molly and she is new to the school and she didn't have any lunch money so I gave her my lunch. She said that she doesn't get no breakfast or dinner at home either because her mommy sleeps all the time, and I know that we always get breakfast and dinner at home because you are a good mommy and are awake so I gave her my lunch so she wouldn't go hungry."

Jackie started to cry.

"I'm sorry mommy, don't cry. I didn't know that was bad." The little girl stated worriedly, she hadn't meant to make her mommy cry, she thought she was being nice.

"Sweetie that wasn't bad, mommy is crying because you are such a nice girl and I am so proud of you, but honey if that ever happens again I want you to tell mommy, or Miss Masters, or Mrs. Caldwell because one of us will buy her lunch, we would never let her go hungry and mommy doesn't want you to go hungry either, ok?"

"Ok mommy."

"Is Molly in your class?"

"No mommy, she's in yours."

"No sweetie she isn't in my class, she must be in Mrs. Anderson's class." Jackie told her.

The family then finished their dinner and the next morning when Jackie got to work she went into her friend Sue Anderson's room. Jackie told her what happened and Sue felt absolutely horrible about it.

"But I don't understand, Molly gets free lunch."

"It sounds like she didn't know that, I guess she just thought that since she didn't have any money she didn't get any lunch." Jackie told her.

"I feel so bad for both Molly and Jasmine, can you imagine on your first day at a new school and thinking that you don't get any lunch? How terrible, and then for poor Jasmine to have to go hungry, I just feel awful, I guess I just figured Molly knew she got free lunch, I will talk to her about lunch as well as about her mom. She's such a sweet little girl and she's made friends quickly. I would have never guessed that was going on at home"

"Don't feel bad, you didn't know, and Jasmine is fine." Jackie assured her.

Sue would do anything for her students, she spends an ungodly amount of her own money on them all the time, Jackie was absolutely positive that Sue would never let one of her students go hungry.

When the students came in for the day Sue went over to Lisa Masters room and pulled Jasmine out into the hallway. As a reward for being such a sweetheart Sue gave Jasmine a full bag of mixed candy and a gold coin which in reality was chocolate but the kids went crazy over them anyways!

Jasmine was very proud of her goodies, happily showing them off to Nick and Jackie that night.

After she had eaten dinner she ate her gold coin which was by far the best part!

The End!
