AN: Here is my new story, Pets. For anyone reading my story, siblings, I am not sure of when I will post the second chapter, however, I do want to thank semperence86 for reviewing on Siblings.
Disclaimer: I do not own Bones (My friend made me promise not to rant, to save everyone's sanity. And now she's denying that fact...)
Anyway, here it is!
TOPIC: PETS
"Mama?" Tempe looked down at her daughter, Lily, who was doing homework.
"Yes, Lily?"
Lily was unsure of how to ask the question that had been on her mind for some time. Ever since she had gone over to her friend, Antonia's, house, in fact. Antonia had a dog, named Cane, who Lily had taken a liking to almost immediately. In fact, Lily liked Cane so much, that she was beginning to wonder if perhaps she could have a pet, as well. She just didn't know how to ask. Tempe had noticed how long it was taking her daughter to answer, and began to become worried. She bent down, so that she was at the girl's eye level.
"Is there something wrong, Lily?" she asked concernedly.
"No, Mama," Lily looked up. "It's just, when I was at Toni's house, she…umm…she…" Lily paused, not sure how to continue. She didn't know if her rational mother would understand her irrational need for a pet.
Tempe was concerned. "Did anything happen, Lily?" she asked, "Did someone harm you?"
Lily shook her head quickly. "No, Mama, nothing like that. Nobody hurt me. But, Toni, she has this dog. His name is Cane. He's really nice, and I really liked playing with him, and I… I…" Lily stopped, and glanced down, but her mother understood what she was going to say.
"You want to know if you can have a dog as well."
"Well, no. Not necessarily a dog. Just a pet." The little girl glanced at her mother through the dark bangs hiding her green eyes.
Temperance nodded in understanding, remembering her own incessant begging for a pet when she was younger. She just didn't know if the ten year old understood what taking care of a pet meant. She decided not to say no directly, but didn't want to have to say yes, and get the girl's hopes up, only to not be able to deliver. She knew only too well what that felt like.
"Well, Lily, I have to talk to your father about this, but if he says yes…" She trailed off, watching the hopeful green eyes in front of her light up in excitement. "If," she continued, emphasizing the if to make it clear to Lily that nothing was set yet, "If he says yes, you would have to be positive that Parker, You, and Gracie will all be able to share responsibility, and your father and I will be allowing you three to be in charge of most of the pet's care. Do you understand?"
Lily nodded excitedly, and ran up the stairs to inform her brother and sister of what their mother had just said.
"Lily! Lily!" Tempe called after the girl, but she would not listen. "Finish your homework," she continued under her breath.
Ten Years Later:
Olivia Booth was laughing as her mother-in-law told the group the story of how they had gotten their pet dog, Kopek. The large family was sitting around the living room, as the very object of the story lay down in the middle of the room.
"Did you ever actually finish the homework, Lily?" she said, glancing at her very embarrassed sister-in-law.
"Nope. But when I casually slipped into the conversation that my father worked for the FBI, my teacher conveniently forgot to write down a zero in the grade book," she answered, smirking. All off Lily's siblings began to laugh, each remembering a time in school when they had used their father's FBI Special Agent status to get out off something.
"Wait, wait!" The father in question held up his hand, "Why wasn't I ever informed of this?"
For an answer, each of his children gave him a sweet, innocent smile.
"You know," Parker said, "it really makes you wonder why all of our teachers were so scared of the FBI…"
Please review! It keeps me writing!
