His Unexpected Mistake

Harry threw the Invisibility Cloak over himself. "Lumos!" he muttered, not wanting to wake the others, Ron especially, but they continued to snore. He checked the Marauder's Map and saw that she was waiting for him in the common room. He walked swiftly to the door and down the staircase picturing her beautiful face in his mind. He opened the door. She was sitting there, in his favourite armchair, staring into the fire. She hadn't heard him yet. He walked up behind her softly but before he could touch her she whispered softly "You're late." "I am not!" he replied indignantly bending down to kiss her soft, warm mouth. She wrapped her arms around his neck and moaned softly. Harry gently pulled and smiled down at her upturned face. She smiled back and he gently stroked her cheek.

He pulled a second armchair close to hers and sat down heavily, as if the whole weight of the world sat with him. "How are you feeling?" The minute he said that he thought it was an unusual question. Normally you would ask that of a sick person he thought to himself but she is the opposite, she has never looked so beautiful. "Fine" she replied looking into his eyes, her smile slowly fading. Even seeing him only made her feel better for a few seconds. But was she sad? She didn't want to admit it to herself but she knew, in that moment, that deep down she was happy about this. She was more afraid then she had ever been before but beneath it all she was happier then she ever imagined. She wished she knew why. "A bit sick this morning but nothing major." "Good," he said genuinely. They both looked back at the fire. She shivered

"Are you cold?" he asked, concerned, getting up and wrapping the Invisibility Cloak around her shoulders. "No," Ginny said quietly, "Scared." "Don't be afraid." He said wishing he could take the words back the minute he said them. He knew they were no good to her. He didn't want to admit how frightened he was, how complicated their situation was. Things like this didn't happen at Hogwarts. She looked into the fire once more, biting her lip. She reached her hand up to hold the hand he had placed on her shoulder. "I think we should tell someone," Ginny put forward, "Maybe they can help." There was no question in her voice. He looked into her face and suddenly saw how young and scared she was. She may be sixteen but it's too young to handle something like this. He looked into her eyes wanting so bad to be able to take her fear away but felt helpless because there was nothing he could do. They should tell someone, it would be obvious soon and they had decided a termination was out of the question.

"Okay," he said, "We'll tell Dumbledore." He glanced down at the map lying on the other armchair. "He is still awake. We'll go tell him now." Ginny nodded. "Let's wait a couple of minutes," she said, "I need to gather my thoughts." She whispered as she attempted to compose her face. He bent down and kissed her again, a blessed relief flooding his body. At least she loved him even after his stupid mistake. He squeezed into the armchair next to her and together they sat there, gazing at the fire for a few minutes. At that moment they were the only three in the Universe.
