First Love
The first time they meet, it's at the reaping.
They both volunteer and arrogantly expect themselves to win. But, when they shake hands, Cato feels a fluttering in his stomach and Clove feels an urge to kill him and kiss him at the same time. It's uncomfortable for both of them and they quickly turn away from each other. But, the feelings don't go away for days, since then see each other 24/7.
The first time they speak, it's on the train. Even then it's short sentences and she's insulting him the entire time.
"Hi."
"Hi."
"Umm…"
"Shut your mouth or say something smart."
"Allies?"
"Why would I want to be with scum like you, Cato?"
"Yes or no."
"Yes and shut up."
The first time they realize they love each other, they're hallucinating. She's plagued with ones of dying. Marvel is standing over her, stabbing her again and again with a spear. Then, the face and spear distorts into Cato's and he's holding a sword over her. She decides that this is much worse for some reason. She can't figure out why, though. Then, she recalls her mother saying something, "Loved ones are always the ones that bring the most pain." Clove hates this because it's true and it fits. But, she hates it because she's falling in love, and she's Clove and she doesn't love.
In Cato's hallucination, he's all alone. He's running all through the woods screaming out Clove's name. Then, she's right behind him, holding her knife to his neck. Then, he can't make out what this means, but she says "I love you." He isn't sure what he's afraid of more, love or death.
The first time they kiss, she's on Death's Door.
He's begging her to stay with him, but she's leaving to the afterlife. In a moment of pure passion, he kisses her. It lasts for 5 seconds before her heart stops. Then, he leaves. After that, he swears that she kissed back at the last moment, just a little bit.
The first time they admit their love, they're both dead. Cato's just arrived in the afterlife and she's already there. When they see each other dead for the first time, they run up to each other and hug. He manages to choke out an "I love you." and she does the same.
Then, they kiss.
