Hi.

"Drive me back home, now!" She orders you, when she steps into the car.

Her hair is ruffled, and her top is torn. She's clutching the material to her chest.

You want to ask her what's happened, but her glare is stopping you.

She's onto you, like she always is when something happens.

You hit the gas, and watch her in the rear view mirror. She's pale in the city lights.

"Don't look at me." She snaps, but you both hear her crack.

She flinches away when you try to reach for her, and so you stop.

You see her look out of the window, and spot the bruising on her left cheek.

A tremble runs down your spine, because you know something terrible has happened.

You hit the brakes, and the car stops.

She curses, loudly, and starts screaming at you. "Why did you do that?!"

You don't answer, and turn around only to stare at her.

She winces again, and looks down at her battered knees. Her hair covers her eyes.

"Tell me… Now…" You're surprised, your voice sounds colder than you expected.

"It's not your business." She retorts, and inwardly you smile.

No matter what happens, she always keeps up appearances.

"Now get me home." Her voice trembles, she's keeping in the tears.

"I will. When you tell me what happened."

"No." She snaps, again, still not showing her eyes.

"Tell me!" You press again.

And she looks up, the fire burning in her eyes like always. "He raped me, okay?!"

You flinch back into your seat, and inhale and exhale. You feel nauseous.

"He used me, just like you knew he would! Now you know!"

You only nod, before hitting the gas once again.

You bring her home, and ignore the sparkling tears in her blue eyes.

You ignore the wracking sobs that shake your body.

You ignore everything, the way you did before.

She's not the only keeping up appearances, after all.
