Mello didn't want to leave matt behind. But he had to. Matt looked at him as he got his stuff together his eyes were sad knowing that this could be the last time he'd be able to see his best friend. Mello packed slowly just to get a little more time with matt he was finally done now though.

"B-but can't I just come with you" matt asked again he knew the question was in vain though mello swung his pack over his shoulder "matt you know you can't no matter how much I want you to" there was a long string of silence "y-you want to walk out with me" mello asked matt nodded and followed him.

They walked slowly down the empty dark halls "so....I-I guess I really can't come with you huh" matt asked staring at the ground mello glanced at the red head he didn't answer though....he didn't have the heart to. He was cruel and uncaring towards most other people but really never towards matt, he was always nice with matt he cared about his feelings so he just didn't have the heart to tell him.

They were finally outside the orphanage "well...I-I guess t-this is it" matt said his voice sounded watery mello looked at him he was standing in front of him matt was biting his bottom lip trying to keep his eyes from leaking trying to be a man about it.

It was a dark and cold night it was winter mello looked at him "yea I guess it is" holding back his own tears. He got a small smile as he spread his arms "come'er" he said matt looked at him "hm" he asked "come on we're best friends were allowed to hug" mello said matt hugged him tightly letting tears fall from his eyes "I-I'm ganna miss you" he said mello let one stray tear fall out his eye "I'm ganna miss you too" he said.

As a single frozen white crystal fell from the sky they released each other from the embrace. They both acted like it was fine but matt was close to completely shattering he tried not to show it though "bye matty" mello said matt couldn't find any words as mello turned around and started walking.

More snowflakes fell from the sky Matt's tears fell freely of his face his whole world at this point shattered he fell to his knee's clutching almost desperately to each of his arms sobbing his eyes shut and his teeth clenched.

Mello could just hear him and it caused his own tears to fall he couldn't look back he'd rather just hold the memory of matt he had he couldn't stand it he broke into a run.

He had broken matt shattered his world and had made him cry he didn't even know how he would live with himself.

"I'm sorry matt".

Was all he could sob out as he ran his bangs covering his eyes.

Matt sobbed in his pain in this agony it hurt so much he felt himself drift away as his body fell over in the light blanket of snow as a stray tear ran down his face "mello" he whispered out.
