Author's note: First fanfiction ever, just a short little something that popped into my mind and needed to be written down. It's a Tate established relationship and is about Kate and Tony coming home after a demanding case.
Disclaimer: Not mine.
Hope you enjoy.
It was ten past four on a sunday morning when Kate Todd and Tony Dinozzo swung the door to their apartment shut. They proceeded through the living room and the hall, dropping varoius bags to the ground and slipping off their shoes on their way to the bedroom.
After switching on the light, they went wordlessly into the adjoining bathroom, changing into their sleeping clothes and brushing their teeth. Both couldn't be bothered to take a shower at this time of the day. When they were finished, they let themselves fall onto their bed. A deep sigh could be heard from both of them.
"We're gonna go and buy us camp beds tomorrow, I'm not going to spent one more night on the bare office floor." Kate complained and groaned while massaging her shoulders, trying to ease at least some of the tension. She looked over to Tony, he lay on his back, staring at the ceiling through half open eyes.
After two days of sleeping in the office and the last 48 hours without any sleep at all, the last week, and the difficult case accompanying it, was beginning to take its toll on them. Seeing that Tony wasn't about to move anytime soon, Kate got up, dragged the blanket over both of them and switched the lamp on the nightstand off. Just as she was about to close her eyes, Tony rolled over, buried his head in her shoulder and snaked his arm around her waist.
"Isn't this supposed to be the girl's position?" She teased.
"I thought you were an emancipated woman, Kate." He shot back.
"Well, normally I am, but sometimes I like the old-fashioned way better." Tony's only response was to snuggle in deeper. Kate grinned.
"Not very Prince Charming of you." Tony snorted. "Well, at the moment, I'm Prince Exhausted." Kate laughed and replied "More like Prince Heavy."
Tony groaned and was about to roll back again, when Kate took his hand in hers and tightened her hold on him. "I'm kidding, Tony."
A few minutes passed in silence and Kate thought that Tony was asleep, when she heard his voice again, mumbling into her shirt "You're the only person I feel completely safe with." And although Kate knew that his confession was provoked by sheer exhaustion, the straining case and in a half-asleep state of mind, it still brought a fond and loving smile on her lips. She slightly turned her head and planted a soft kiss on his forehead.
"Me too, honey." She murmured.
Tony's only reaction was to shortly tighten the grip on their joined hands and sigh contently as sleep finally washed over him.
